Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 01, 2022 8:11 pm Location : Sydney (Parramatta Council) Looking for some urgent help on our concern which might cause issue for our home demolition. We have abolished gas service already few months before as we no longer have any gas appliance. Q1) For demolition purpose, what all existing services must be abolished? Q2) Does abolishment of electricity (AGL in my case) MUST happen "before" home demolition? Or the electricity abolishment can be done after the demo? Reason for asking is, we have got ETA for electricity abolishment which is like 2-3 weeks AFTER the demo date which is allocated to us. Q3) Do we need to also abolish the Sydney water service? Anyone know the ETA of completion? Highly appreciate if you have any additional tips before demo. Thanks in advance. Re: URGENT : Knockdown rebuild - existing services abolished 2Aug 01, 2022 8:38 pm You need to abolish NBN service. Usually that's via a service request on their website. Electric disconnection is usually done by your demolition company. Water and sewer is usually capped at the boundary of your land by your demolition company or a licensed plumber. Your demolition company contract should have this information. Re: URGENT : Knockdown rebuild - existing services abolished 3Aug 02, 2022 4:41 am The "proper" way to demolish nbn is via service request which is about 4 weeks notice n $400. They also update their system to show nbn services not available for your address. My demo ppl cut the cable themselves for free, the only anomaly was that when I wanted to reconnect the system incorrectly showed it as being active but the customer service person just updated on their end. Ultimately your choice on this one. I went the shortcut route. Demo ppl used a level 2 electrician to disconnect power n also update Ausgrid for Meter n supply removal. This is important because when you register a new Meter the previous one must be marked as terminated. Ask your demo people for the Ausgrid job ref in case week electrician forgets to update Ausgrid. For water no abolishment, per earlier reply. Most of this has been answered however the other posters are getting the water disconnection wrong. DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR WATER. It is needed during demo and construction, especially during asbestos removal as water us used to suppress the dust. We always disconnect our own electricity, it is literally a 5 minute job but most demo companies do it as well. The main one you need to be concerned about is gas which can gave a decent lead time. Re: URGENT : Knockdown rebuild - existing services abolished 5Aug 02, 2022 7:11 am Thanks guys. We have Smart meter for electricity. I read on one the forums that: ``` If you have the old meter (analog), the demo company can arrange to have an L2 sparky disconnect it for you. If you have the smart/digital meter, you'll have to fill in the abolishment form (found online with your power company) and have this done prior to the demo. ``` So in our case as we have smart/digital meter, is it true that the demo company / L2 sparky won't be able to do the disconnection job themselves?
