Especially if you had something pictured in your mind. I'm sure they will come up with a solution for you. Thanks HA. Yep have found a way around it which I'll get to in a moment. So they've added 2 more bricks and I think that will be good. Hopefully all will work out ok! Need some serious foresight to visualise the final outcome! We visited Mentone Premix over the weekend and I think we're now more confused that ever. We were initially thinking a darker aggregate but I don't want a dark retaining wall, dark fences (the side fences are going to be painted in a charcoal) AND a dark driveway. We need a contrast, so thinking of this colour: Balcombe: But ideally it'd have less brown in it. Macquarie Mix - we think too dark Batquartz - too dark My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Classic style weatherboard Melb -driveway/landscaping- y 725Apr 18, 2016 9:28 pm Hmm... They gave us 2 out our way (2 different mixes), and one of the addresses didn't even exist when we got there - awesome! We went to actual Mentone Premix and had a look at a few out there. Your house is lovely by the way. Just wondered if you had been down to Cranbourne Pre-Mix? They have a range of aggregates there also, not sure how they compare to Mentone (as I haven't been there) but they may have a few other options for you? Personally we have selected the 'taylor' mix which is a lighter mix but with some charcoal in it to match in with our fences (same as you, charcoal/dark grey), gutters etc. There are others like 'sorrento', 'penlang' or 'wilson' that might work? some have a grey base with the stones, whilst others have cream base. http://cranbournepremix.com.au/exposed- ... rettyPhoto anyway, hope that this may help a bit My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Classic style weatherboard Melb -driveway/landscaping- y 728Apr 19, 2016 3:13 pm TashPaul Hi cinder, just been reading through your thread and your current driveway selection issues! Largely the finished product quality will come down to the experience of the Concreter. When we were looking the same mix at another address was all patchy. The job I had done was fantastic. Even colour, stone distribution and wash off. First pic is of the address we went to look at. Second pic is our concrete. Although wet it's not patchy at all. Pouring exposed required a level of skill so be sure to look at their work prior even in different colours. Fingers crossed it turns out ok! We concede this look does appear super modern when compared to our house, but the idea is with the aggregate driveway and the planting, the overall look will be softened. It will (in my opinion!) look awesome when the lighting is in as well, which we've managed to squeeze into the budget - yay. Lots of rain in Melbourne yesterday, and they have an RDO today, plus ANZAC Day on Mon, so nothing further until Tuesday. Already it's so nice just having the front FLAT! I hope you do not mind me asking ....... We are looking into Highview Homes right now and was wondering if after settling in to the house for the last 18months or so you would recommend them? We have been impressed so far by the staff (very knowledgeable) and homes so far. Like you have a slightly more complicated block. Thank you in advance. Feel free to PM if you would prefer. You just have to factor in that they're going to be more expensive than the volume builders. We've had no dramas with the house since we've moved in. Any issues we had initially were rectified by Highview (ie: moving 2 drain pipes because every time it rained you could hear dripping in the bedrooms). There was a bit of a plumbing issue with one of the toilets, which we managed to sort ourselves recently (Highview told us this was how the plumbing worked, but an independent plumber fixed it in 15 mins and we'd put up with it for 2 years) - but that's fairly minor. The only thing I would consider is that I have heard Highview aren't as flexible with letting you get your own people in (which we did with heating, cooling and extra electric work, cabling and supplying our own door furniture) - though that's probably to cover themselves and make sure they have control over everything. Probably the case with most builders. They do do a very unique style of home though, and we got exactly what we'd always dreamed of having. Hope this helps. We really have not been looking at volume builders, had been focused on custom, however then came across HH which seem to be a good mix of the two. Great to hear that when there were problems they have been fairly responsive. There will always be a few hiccups, it is how they handle those hiccups that is important.
