As for a previous question re wiring, antenna etc. No, they will not let you do your own wiring or lay cable etc you have to go through Sentinel. You can of course organise your antenna afterwards. Masterton will not let any other people onsite to do work (yourself included) until after handover. Pegout has been done but still waiting on updated tender, building contract and for contract plans to be corrected. However, I thought I would share with everyone that on the weekend we visited people around the corner from our new place who built with Masterton and moved in back in May. We thought it might be good to see an actual home that was not a display home and get a feel for how they found the process (given that only John and Tarin have finished and the rest of us are just starting). Overall they were happy with the finish, thought the worst thing was.... can you guess.... how slow they were to get everything done and that DiL tiles were the worlds biggest rip off... Their main words of advice were check your plans very very carefully each time you get a revision and make sure everything that you want is documented in your tender (They had to go back to Council as the wrong plans were submitted). If you've been told something is included make sure its in writing on your plans or tender its not good enough to have it in email as your SS will go by the plans/tender. It was reassuring for us and we're back to feeling kind of hopeful that it should be worth it in the end if we ever get started!! So I thought it might be nice for others to know that Masterton can do a good job (that J&T's isn't a one off!) and we've seen it in real life. I was comparing their site to others. Theres a big difference in quality in their web page and services compared to others. From what I understand our stormwater will be pushed out to the street using some kind of hydralic system rather than requiring us to seek an easement from our back neighbours. Our block is on a 1.3m fall from front to back so I assume the water would naturally run to the back of the block. Has anyone had this done and do you know what the associated cost is? As I mentioned before the hydraulic plan is holding up our council approval (Masterton resubmitted an amended plan so we're back to the beginning of the review process). I can't see anything in the tender about the stormwater system and am just wondering if we are suddenly going to be hit with a bill for thousands of dollars that we didn't forsee. In a similar vein, we will be widening our driveway for the double garage. Our landscape architect mentioned that we would have to get council to do the widening (and re-cementing) since this was their property and that it would be costly. Is this something others have done and if so, can you give me an idea of what kind of costs I'm looking at? Thank you! After all the mucking around, yelling and screeming, lost paper work and what have you we decided to hang in and stay with Masterton. Two of the main resons being we are allready over six months down the track and to go to another builder would mean starting from scratch and who knows in another six months time we could be in the same situation we are now, and secondly we love the house we are building and cant find anything else that suits our life style. So last week our contract was signed and our plans have finally been given to council. We spent today at dons tiles (very helpfull team in there and a credit to the store) and got half way through our selection. We found that one day was not enough for us to get it right so we will back on Monday for round two. We are booked in for studio M latter this month and hopefully from now on things stay on track. Hope everyone is moving forward with thier homes. Regards Nathan Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 51Sep 01, 2009 8:59 pm Mrs Rose - Thanks for sharing the feedback of your neighbours! It's good to hear another positive build story. Beebob - I thought Masterton was the biggest builder in NSW or possibly second after Clarendon maybe?? Hence the paperwork trail take so long Nathanp - Good on you for sticking it out. Often we thought the same that if we backed out we would be even further behind our goal and could potentially end up in the same position. Have you got a blog or started a thread of your own yet so we can follow your progress? Lizzy - ick stormwater!! I've had many sleepless nights over stormwater. We are connecting to an easement in a drainage reserve next to our land and we never got the final pricing until 3 days before we signed our contract (which was 3 months out of council). Even to this day I'm a little unsure of the final cost as in fixed sit costs it says Stormwater Connection to Easement (included) yet under our variations it states no allowance has been made for works in the existing drainage easement....so we get the connection but not the cost to put it in?? Anyway sorry back to you.....our neighbours had to pump to the street. I'm not sure how much it was but I can check if you like? The fall isn't as great but a pumps a pump right?? Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 52Sep 01, 2009 9:58 pm I am in the same boat MrsRose. It so damm fustrating, how long have you waited and when does your tender period run out? After so much work it is the final hurdle you would think they want to get us the final tender done and a sign contract and be onto construction. MrsRose Well our file is still proceeding at a snails pace. Pegout has been done but still waiting on updated tender, building contract and for contract plans to be corrected. Lizzy regarding the storm water, it is about $8 -9K. Santorini Grande Executive Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 53Sep 01, 2009 10:45 pm EmoH - thanks for that. Ugh, I can't believe that each time we think we have our budget worked out something else like this comes up and it goes out the window. BADH - if you can check with your neighbours that would be great. Might give me an idea of range if there's a big difference. Our original tender price and the amount that was submitted with our council application was around $309K. It will be interesting (and terrifying) to work out what the final price will be. I'm still at the point of budgeting properly for this venture - appologies if this has been asked before on this thread or the old one (couldn't see the answer) but does anyone know around how much I should allow for render to the outside of the entire house (2 storey)?
