Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3061Jan 10, 2015 5:04 pm We are getting a freestanding tub but the sales lady said to do it a colours. Do we thus have to have another appointment with Dons to recalculate the tile price after the colours appointment? I was hoping just to tell Dons at the appointment this was out intent so we don't have issues. Will that be sufficient? Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3062Jan 10, 2015 6:12 pm I would have thought that, if you hadn't organised the freestanding bath before your tile appointment, then you should (hopefully) be able to call them and explain the change, and they could just adjust your quote accordingly. Can't see why you would need to have another appointment. But we had upgraded to the freestanding bath back at the beginning with the Sales lady, so we didn't need to cross that bridge. Have you upgraded your tiles, or just going with ones that are included? We went with tiles from the standard range, so any extra tiling required due to freestanding bath didn't add any extra cost. Even if you were getting upgraded tiles, it would just be the cost of the extra tiles needed under the bath ...... an extra 1.5 - 2 metres of tiles? Wouldn't be much (as opposed to the cost of the bath itself!! lol!!) My colours lady dealt with the tile people and they did up the new quote, and emailed me the sheets to resign and send back. Concerto Elite Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3064Jan 11, 2015 4:35 am Just came back from my uncle's new house by Masterton. He just got the keys. Being from Melbourne didn't realise how big they were. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the quality of the house in general. I didn't have a checklist with me but can anyone else confirm a few things: - island bench with waterfall edges, the edges aren't mitred, is this normal? - bathroom tiles on corners, i.e. floor tiles meets wall tiles, are grouted rather than caulked/siliconed. Normal? - tiled shower base. Can someone please post a photo of theirs? My uncle's one doesn't seem to have sufficient fall. He has 300x300 tiles and they only cut the middle tile with the drain to create the fall, they didn't cut the tiles from the drain to each (4) internal corners. Disappointed with the tiling and lack of fall in the shower. Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3065Jan 11, 2015 7:52 am Hi JB1 I had always thought that the wet areas had to have the silicone strip around the edge where they meet the walls. I would escpecially appreciate information on this from those have completed building. I want to make sure it's in my contract. Thanks Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3066Jan 11, 2015 8:05 am I'll have a look when i go to our house....... probably later today! Disappointed with the tiling and lack of fall in the shower. You can request mitred waterfall edges and this was discussed with us in colours. Our showers and the recesses are all siliconed. Colour matching too which was a nice touch. Only our tiles around the shower waste are cut also. There is a fall in the screed and all the water does drain away effectively. If your uncle requested mitred edges and did not get them, he should ask for it to be redone. Sealing of our showers was the last thing done and if he's has not been, he should speak with his SS. www.villinaatvoyager.blogspot.com.au Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3069Jan 11, 2015 10:40 am Thanks for the info again re the tiles. Did anyone have a BAL rating and went through DA? Ill ask M when they are back this week but did M require a certifier to confirm the BAL? Our land came with a report stating that it was a 29 but I'm not sure if M will require their own? I really don't want it to go up! It looks cheap without. The shower is a concern as it doesn't provide sufficient fall. I've also not seen it with only one tile cut. I can't see how you can get sufficient fall without lippage or using small tiles. Here is mine in comparison and the only way I've seen it done with a waste in the middle. Re silicone, I'm talking about where the floor tiles meet the wall tiles, or internal wall tiles in the general bathroom area, toilet or laundry (it was siliconed inside the shower). Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3071Jan 11, 2015 3:02 pm Our bathrooms are sealed including along where all of the walls meet. Not sure about the laundry as I am not home. There is sufficient fall in our shower with both shower heads going. Benchtops are a matter of choice and discussed at colours. It would be on his colour selection sheet he signed. We preferred not to have mitered after noticing chips and gaps in various companies display homes. www.villinaatvoyager.blogspot.com.au Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3072Jan 11, 2015 3:22 pm GillyM in regards to your pantry did you select a butlers pantry KDR. Our land came with a report stating that it was a 29 but I'm not sure if M will require their own? I really don't want it to go up! I did my own calculation of BAL from the rfs website. My calculation came it BAL 29. From my understanding if we wanted to leave it at that the council would confirm it when you submit your DA and make sure all your building elements comply with the rating. If they believe your rating is higher they would ask you to provide higher rated materials. If you pay for a certifier to do a report (I think about $800) they will specify the correct rating for your home and what materials are needed. Your whole house might not be under one BAL rating either....... The front might be BAL 40 but the back of the house might only be BAL 29. You'll be glad you got it right when a fire comes through the area...... Although we did remove the shelves on the right hand wall of the WIP so we could put our second fridge in there. One day I may reinstate the shelves, but with 5 adults in the house, one fridge just isn't enough! lol!! We got given that report and since we are going DA I don't really want that assessment to go up so don't want to have a certifier re assess it for a certificate like a CDC would need. Did the council just review your assessment and then confirm it was done correctly and then just reviewed M's building plans to make sure they complied with the assessment? Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3076Jan 12, 2015 6:10 pm MGardz, we had to get a Bal report completed, I think it was around $400-$500 but we did not have anything to say this when we purchased the land. That is the silliest thing i have ever heard penalising a customer that is willing to spend more. I know several builders that don't charge a dollar after signoff as long as you pay more. Are you getting colorbond fencing? Our estate says that we have to have wood unless the BAL states that we have no choice which is the case with the BAL 29 at the front. Did M have to put this info re fence material on the plans before they go to council? Thanks Edmondss I dont think anyone from M gives us much info I didnt know that we do electrical at colours! Thank you for telling me so its good to be prepared and its good advice to mark things out and make lists before appointments as its so easy to forget or get rushed into decisions we might regret later! And then get charged the admin fees! ggml i think its to stop us changing our minds too much. They seem very under staffed and over worked (maybe thats why the service seems to suffer a little) So frustrating isnt it...Its worse when they messed up our plans which was their own fault and threatened the fee. I didnt really want the fireplace where the doors to the alfresco would go...call me crazy lol Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 3080Jan 13, 2015 11:01 am MGardz Thanks Brooke. Colours includes an appointment with Sentinel who do alarm system, data points (for Ethernet cables), tv points, foxtel points and telephone points.
