Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Nov 12, 2009 12:28 pm We have installed a private pole at our reno on adive that we had to. We had verbal OK from the next door neighbour and now, six months later he is hastling us to remove it because he recons it is ugly and we are"selfish" in having it This pole was on our approved DA 4 years ago AND the sparky got advice from the council / electricity provider/ certifier before installing it. It is on our side of the fence and in front of a current street pole, which has a stint (I hope that is the right word) on it so we could not run up it (unless we chose to replace the whole street pole and incur a personal expense of over $8K). Does anyone know where I can find any service rules / regulations out there for running wires from street poles to the house (we have an approved balcony at the front of our house) as that is what the neighbour wants and my sparky is saying it is not possible as our balcony and current windows are in the two possible positions. Are there any new rules regarding connections for hew housing??? progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: need urgent advise on private electrical poles - PLEASE!!! 2Nov 12, 2009 6:40 pm anyone?? progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: need urgent advise on private electrical poles - PLEASE!!! 3Nov 20, 2009 6:53 pm Your neighbour should be doing this research, not you. Agreed - but all I hear from him is that we must do it and that we are being selfish by keeping it there. I am just looking for hard facts to show him once and for all to get him of our case. Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it. progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: need urgent advise on private electrical poles - PLEASE!!! 5Nov 23, 2009 4:21 pm How about this as an approach: "Yes, I absolutely agree! It's hideous and I would love to get rid of it. But the electrician, the council and the electricity company all say it has to be there." Then maybe you can get your neighbour to complain about the evil electrician, evil council and evil electricity company instead of complaining about you. If he's able to find a better solution then everyone wins. If he can't, then at least he'll be hassling someone else instead of you. They look much better than the old wooden ones too. If you don't need to move/remove it. Don't. Maybe paint the pole a hideous baby crap green just to annoy the neighbour tho Re: need urgent advise on private electrical poles - PLEASE!!! 7Nov 24, 2009 1:11 pm shanec1980 I like the small metal power poles and its much better having lines going all the way across your yard to the house. This is best as I could gather from the technical aspect for anyone considering these poles: Energy aust. service rules state that the point of attachment (POA) on the front most point of a house must be 2.2m above floor height and NOT highter than 6.5m from the ground. (We have a balcony at this position). The connection cannot cross over neighbouring boundaries. Apparently we cannot go under (U hgo - whatever that means ) as the current street pole has a splint on it. (alternatively this could be done if we replace the street pole at our expense of $8K ). The private pole must be within 1m from the front boundary. At this point we had retained a solicitor as I just have had enough of harrassment and bullying over a pole that has been approved by EA. progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: private electrical pole - how ridiculous can it get!!! 10Dec 01, 2009 9:35 pm Man what a pain in the ar$e some people are, I hope SS you get the outcome you are after ____________________________ Bec ____________________________ Building our Balinese Resort Inspired Dream Home Blog ~ http://hagarshouse.blogspot.com/ Re: private electrical pole - how ridiculous can it get!!! 11Dec 01, 2009 9:44 pm Bl@@dy h3ll what a total PITA, what a neighbour to have, poor buggers! btherl How about this as an approach: "Yes, I absolutely agree! Also love the idea of getting your solicitor to write your neighbour a letter stating he pulls his head in and stops the harrassment or there will be dire ramifications... Best of luck! If it's approved and it's there and it has been installed correctly..... how can your neighbour even have a problem? Isn't that what the DA process is for.... so people can lodge objections? You are a nicer person than me SS... I'd be simply telling the neighbour to deal with it and pull his head in. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
