Getting started. 22Mar 02, 2015 10:51 am Minor update - managed to get the pool in before the rain we had a few weeks ago.. but that's then slowed down the remaining earthworks and plumbing. Pool is 7m X 4m so a good usable size on these small blocks. Got the footings for both the house and the retaining done mid last week and the drains are starting today. Few pics Pool - it's 1m out of the ground on the end facing the house: And just a couple of boring ones of the site cut / levels and the footings: Meeting with my architect on Wednesday to do some proper coloured elevations and selections so should have a better idea what the finished look is going to be then. I did also pick up some tiles for the pool last week. Bought a few hundred sheets of these so hopefully they look good! Should make the pool a really nice mid-blue colour. Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 23Mar 02, 2015 10:43 pm Your build looks great, cant wait to see it progress Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 25Mar 11, 2015 10:54 am May as well do a minor update The guys are on site today doing the slab prep - so for the last week and a half we've done footings, drains, some of the retaining, waterproofing and back filling. Garage + initial step through the house: Closer - Garage + Part of the outdoor drying area on the right: Up on the middle level: Pool: Looking back to front: And I got some coloured elevations though. The theme is meant to be a bit dark and dramatic, with the timber to soften it. Roofing + wall cladding, windows and garage are going to be Ironstone, with some lighter greys to go with it. I will say that the rendering colours are darker than they are in reality though. Not 100% set on this so will be doing a bit of tweaking. What's everyone's thoughts on this? Keen to hear opinions! Next on the agenda is slab to go down on Friday, and then framing to start next week. Unfortunately for me - I am flying out to the US for 2 weeks on Friday so won't see this part come together - but i'll try and upload some pics as they come through! Have also done some cabinetry and flooring selections so I'll post them up too . Cheers, travis Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 26Mar 20, 2015 8:03 pm It looks amazing! I really like the external colours, it's gorgeous. After seeing your previous photos I can't wait to see this house come together! Getting started. 27Mar 26, 2015 3:47 pm Thanks very much Ilaeria. Hope you enjoy this one. I am back from the states now so have an update . While I was gone - the slab went down. Looking from the rear of the house to the front - top slab. This is for outdoor dining, dining, kitchen, living and media. Closer view: Side view from the neighbours block And yesterday the built to boundary garage wall was built. As part of the new Brisbane City Plan introduced last year, you need neighbours permission to build built to boundary now (if you don't get it, you have to come in 500mm) - so consider myself lucky here . Other side: All the ground floor framing, structural steel, particle etc has been delivered so that'll be the next few weeks assuming we can get it to stop raining consistently! I have a booking to try and finalise tiling selections on Saturday for the bathrooms, so I'll hopefully post some pics of that on the weekend. Thanks for looking! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Slabbed & Block-ed! 28Mar 26, 2015 5:11 pm Cannot wait to see your house take shape. Also I love the dark colours on your exterior specially with that timber it will look fantastic! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Slabbed & Block-ed! 29Mar 29, 2015 1:05 pm Thanks Belzey! Went and chose some more tiles yesterday. ill post up some selection pics tomorrow. Also have 2 crews of carpenters starting tomo so hopefully throwing a bit more labour at this should catch up a bit of time lost to the rain. Shouldn't take them too long to knock the frame out . Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Slabbed & Block-ed! 30Apr 07, 2015 1:13 pm First update for the week Had a pretty busy easter break doing 'house stuff' - bath choosing, accessories etc, weed spraying. So - the bottom level frame is largely up. Few pics - starting from the front. Front door - it's a 2.7m*1.2m pivot, aluminium frame and clear glass. Still need to find a handle (over 1200mm if anyone has any suggestions/links on where to buy???). Garage store cupboard - runs the length of the garage and is broken up into 2 sections for ease of buying doors. Each side will have 3 sliders. 3.3m ceilings on the ground level. Still on ground - crappy pic of the downstairs bath. Moving up to the middle level - media room. The framing over the doors will come out (the bit that is supported at the moment by that post) and will have floor to ceiling surface sliding doors. Standing in the dining room - looking back towards the street. You have the kitchen and pantry on the left - living on the right. Standing in the backyard now - but same effect. Outdoor + dining on the left. This has a cornerless 10 panel bi-fold. Pantry pic. Kitchen cabinets will run in on the left hand side where there will be another sink/dishwasher. Remainder will be shelving and fridge spot on the right. Some structural steel has made it's way to site Opinions to ask if I can. I really like this shape bath for the ensuite however I don't have 100% say . She who has more say that me - prefers this style. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Which do you prefer. To note also (not sure if it makes a difference) - but there is another of the second style already going in the main bathroom so if chosen - there would be 2 of the same baths in the house. appreciate the opinions/comments! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Slabbed & Block-ed! 31Apr 07, 2015 1:15 pm If you're already doing an option 2 I'd stick with that so it's consistent and flows? I guess it depends on what other fittings you have too - we tried to stick with angular fittings as much as possible for a consistent look. Frame going up... 32Apr 07, 2015 4:18 pm Interesting point of view Ilaeria - thanks! I normally try and use different items in my ensuite than the other bathrooms - different cabinets, stones, tiles etc just so it feels a bit more "special" as an ensuite. The other thing I didn't think of initially is that I am going to fill the bath out of the roof - so the wider footprint of the one I like might make it a bit less splashy? All interesting thoughts! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Frame going up... 33Apr 07, 2015 4:21 pm Yeah, I know what you mean about making it feel special. We used different tiles and a nicer shower head in ours, but kept the taps, basins, and cabinetry the same as the main bathroom - so they were still clearly the same theme, just variations of each other. Also personally purely on the style side I like option 2 better But yes, if you're doing a ceiling tap to fill it (how luxurious!) then maybe option 1 will be better, I'm not sure Jen (& Dave) Plantation Bronte, Ormeau Ridge, Gold Coast QLD 12/03/2015 - Commencement... 26/08/2015 - Handover! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76446 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Frame going up... 35Apr 07, 2015 5:38 pm I much prefer the first bath...I think it is good to make the bathrooms totally different and go for a total luxe feeling in the ensuite and that first bath is much more fitting for that, just my opinion Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Frame going up... 36Apr 07, 2015 6:23 pm My vote is for the first bath, looks classy and much more comfortable. When I look at the second one I think "ouch" with the corners. When it comes to baths I think comfort should come before form so the best way to choose is to get in and see how it feels (that's how I choose my bath). I also don't think it matters that it is different to your other bath - no one matches lounges when there is two in two different rooms. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Frame going up... 37Apr 07, 2015 7:13 pm I prefer the first bath, I love the organic soft look it has. Having said that, I've chosen a rectangular one for myself! But it's hob mounted not freestanding, which I think makes a difference. Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Frame going up... 38Apr 07, 2015 7:21 pm Following. Looking great so far Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Frame going up... 39Apr 07, 2015 11:25 pm I'm voting for the first bath as well. Much prefer the soft organic lines than the hard angular on the second one. Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Frame going up... 40Apr 08, 2015 7:53 pm The whole build is looking great Love the grey elevation, the timber will make a beautiful feature for the facade. Good for you for having a great neighbour and letting the wall go to the fence line Also vote for bath one hands down.
