Post subject:  Couch too big for lift & stairs, alternatives?

hi

as the title suggests
our couch is too big to go up the stairs or in the lift at our new apartment

apartment is situated on the third floor
we were thinking maybe to block & tackle it up to the balcony and through the balcony doors
or even use a scissor lift to get it up there
access at the base isnt a problem it would be from a carpark

did a little ringing around and most movers cant seem to help me

anyone know of any other way to do it apart from selling the couch & getting a smaller one?

*edit* will also add if anyone has any recommendations on which movers could do such a task that would be great

Buy a new couch.

Or do as you say, hire a scissor lift, safety harnesses for all who are in the scissor lift and for people on your balcony and barricading for the area around the lift etc in case the couch gets dropped. Or use a block and tackle and too bad if someone gets squashed in the process.

Which one will work out to cost less? New couch isn't so bad now.

I can’t believe you didn’t think to take measurements????
No offence……but I have seen and heard this so many times.
You’re not the only one.

I’d sell the one you have, buy a segmented lounge suite, this way you can carry one piece at a time.

Lounges like these come in pieces, much easier to carry!

Remember…..take measurements!!!

One thing to watch too - measure the gap that your sliding door opens to.

We found that even lifting out the sliding glass panel, the gap was no wider than the wooden front door.

Of course if you have an extra-wide one, or a pair of doors that close together, then obviously the gap is not going to matter.

3 floors up..... no worries! That's the easy part! Gravity will assist! :D :D

haha no offence taken
getting the right apartment is more important than fitting our old couch in
looking into buying a new one, looks like i can get it made in 2 parts so putting it into the lift won't be a problem

cheers for the help

pair of doors that close together on the balcony so getting it in would not have been a problem

Scissor lift, crane etc will work.

Think outside the square and you'll think of a way to get it there.

But if all else fails  :D

I know this is an old topic, but i thought it might help someone else.

try placing the lounge in the lift on its end so that the lounge is standing up vertical. It worked for us
