Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had info on restoring old wooden doors.

They currently are in good nack but have some surface irregularities, cracks, grooves etc and is a varnished timber kind of look.

Are the easy to restore to paint over?

Also the handles are onl style handles with a big vertical metal backing, assuming it is screwed into two spots. Can this be concealed nicely?

Are you planning on stripping the doors back to sound timber?
If so, use whatever method works for you. Some prefer the old heat gun and scrapers, orbital sanders etc.
If they're in good nick and just need a sand here and there and then a paint, I would recommend sealing the previous clears/varnish with shellac. Zinsser BIN, etc. This will isolate any mystery previous polyurethanes, clears, varnishes etc used and eliminate any possible interactions with your top coats.
