Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 12, 2009 5:18 pm Hubby and I are finally looking to upgrade from our terrible verticals. We wanted to get timber Venetians throughout - however I don't think they will work on the sliding doors??? Would timber verticals work better just for the sliding doors??? Or would this look funny? Any suggestions??? Thanks!!! Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 2Jul 12, 2009 6:29 pm Muffins, in my last house I had timber venetians on the sliding doors. I found that it worked ok. The only thing was that when the venetian was put up or down they hit the lock half way up and ended up chipping a bit out the blinds eventually. So if you choose them just keep that in mind. I also found that as much as I love timber blind look, they don't really seal off the window well, as far as light and cold/heat go, but that's just my opinion. This was more noticable in the bedrooms. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 4Jul 12, 2009 9:34 pm I'm putting Roman's on mine, but you can get blinds in a stacker type structure - kinda like the 3 stacker doors that fully open but in blinds - it might pay to go to an actual blinds n curtains place to get some ideas 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Quite pricey but a good solution for the sliding door. Have seen rollers done also. It is a personal/fnancial choice Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 6Jul 12, 2009 10:01 pm We won't have a sliding door but instead will have bifolds, but in our current house we have a blockout roller. We will do the same in the new house (rollers) but we need 2 of them side by side because it's a wide door. I have chosen a white fabric that has a pattern in it and they will be mounted on the architrave so they can be pulle right up out of the way. Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 7Jul 12, 2009 10:17 pm I just have one blockout roller blind on our sliding door and it is 2.7m wide.. I thought about using multiple blinds but it wouldn't block the light out as much and since the door is in the middle it doesn't really make much difference. Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 8Jul 12, 2009 10:37 pm I'm currently facing the same dilema I have a stacker door and 2 fixed windows next to it on either side opening from the family/kitchen/meals to the alfresco: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I know exactly what I don't want, but not what I do!! It's a pretty tricky door/window to dress, as the opening is 2 stacked doors from the side, not the middle. I don't want a draw curtain, as it would bunch up too much at one side (and the door opening isn't in the middle). I'd prefer not to have rollers/verticals or panel glides as they are too modern for the look I'm after. I have thought about having plantations on the 2 fixed windows and a roman blind over the stacker doors....but not sure how this would look. I have read about sliding plantations, but could you imagine the price!! For the moment, It will be sheets! Interested to see how others have dressed their stackers/sliders. I have to choose for my stacker slider door, and have no idea yet. -I like Roman blinds but I hate how they block the top part of the light etc at the top of the door when they fold up. -No to verticals, can see the dog and kids getting caught up in them all the time. -Panel glides, I like but the last panel will block the glass at the end of the door. -Venetians, maybe, but a pain in the butt. -Roller blinds, well I was set on these, but having them at the rental at the moment, it is a pain in the butt to roll them up and down all the time to let the damn dog in and out all the time, and they get tatty on the edges ifnot rolled up evenly. -Timber venetians, I love the look of, but as I said, don't seal well. -Any other suggestions? www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 10Jul 13, 2009 10:57 am Stormy have you considered the plantations on the ends and then 3 roman's (1 for each panel of the door)? Panel gliders are ridiculously expensive. I have roller blinds on all of my stacking sliding doors, each door has its own blind. I honestly don't think rollers are too modern, as they have some gorgeous fabrics in them that look a little less modern and get your main area ones on a remote, I love my remote, push a button....no chains, up..down..up..down half up..half down, whatever you want. I put the remote only in my main living area and there are two large blinds up there. I have one remote that can operate either or both blinds. Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 15Jul 13, 2009 11:35 am Ikea sell some nice panel glides in a variety of coloyrs/textures/patterns that aren't very expensive. I have seen them done so the last panel sits outside the door frame. That way they expose all the glass when opened fully. We'll probably be going with these. I have taken into consideration the cleaning factor and now also the sealing factor with Venetians but I'm after more privacy where you can have light coming in but no one is able to see through IYKWIM??? Plus I really like the look of them!!! WOW Smoky I would hate to be in your dilemma!!! Beautiful door - PITA to dress!!! Sliding plantations sound gorgeous - I can imagine the cost Plantations were my 1st choice until I received a quote What about the timber Venetians with the sheer fabric over the top? I think they are called sheer view?? Would they limit the cleaning and sealing do you think??? Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 18Jul 13, 2009 7:19 pm Muffins, maybe you should go with the Timber venetians and then if you need an extra layer, put the curtain over the top. You may find personally that they are adequate without the curtain. It depends on the the light and temperatures at your place I guess. It would be easy to put a curtain rod up and add the curtains if the blinds don't do it for you. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Blinds for sliding doors? 19Jul 16, 2009 7:57 am lisanne Stormy have you considered the plantations on the ends and then 3 roman's (1 for each panel of the door)? I forgot about this thread! In our old house we had 3 romans covering a 3 metre window in our bedroom, and they never really sat right together and let light in through the cracks. It faced east, so would get the morning sun. If I was going to do the plantations on the fixed windows and the romans on the stacker, I'd probably just go for 1 roman. But being a wide door, it would be incredibly heavy and may not be possible! 3 romans might be my only choice... Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
