Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 07, 2013 11:08 am I am thinking of adding a second hot water system to my new double storey build and just wondering if anyone has done this before. The idea is to have the standard solar boosted hot water dedicated for downstairs and a Rinnai instant hot water system dedicated for upstairs. I am hoping this will mean that if someone is washing dishes downstairs, it will not impact the hot water or pressure upstairs. Also, with the instant hot water system, I want to have the controllers to set the hot water temperature so I can preset the temperature for the kids bath / shower. The solar boosted ones do not have this function. Will this work? We have a solar-gas boosted HW for kitchen/laundry/master bedroom, and instantaneous HW gas for minor ensuites upstairs. You're correct, that only the instantaneous gas HW units can have a controller, which we did also so the kids can't burn themselves. It also means when they're having a shower (which of course they do when they should be helping cleanup after dinner) then if someone is washing up in the kitchen, turning on/off taps won't interfere. (Hmm, maybe that's not a good thing!) Re: Multiple Hot Water Systems for Double Storey House 3Nov 11, 2013 8:52 am Perfect! Good to see someone else who's done this. Did u put the second unit next to the first or somewhere higher near the upstairs bathrooms? The gas boosted solar tank is toward the front nearer the laundry and master bedroom.
