Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 23, 2015 1:14 pm I am getting some renovations done to my new apartment, which was built in 1979 and appears to have the original toilet in the ensuite. I cannot tell what type of plumbing / pipe it has from looking at it. I know that it's either S or P, and one of them goes into the wall and one goes into the floor. But I cannot work out how to really tell which is which, as for example, the toilet of my place where I currently live has one thick white pipe that goes into the floor AND a steel narrow pipe with a screw that goes into the wall. So which one do you look at to determine if it's S or P? Also, I want to get a Bunnings toilet to replace the old existing one. As long as I match both to either P or S, will it be ok? I also note some of the Bunnings toilets say they're both P AND S. Is this possible? Thanks! Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 2Nov 23, 2015 7:48 pm Put a photo up so we can see what you have.more likely will be a s trap on maybe old earthenware pipe and the smaller pipe is vent as use to do it like that at times back then. Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 3Dec 26, 2015 11:20 pm Easiest way is if your standing to take pee (p) it will hit the wall or you sit to take (s) it'll hit the floor. Lol P trap goes through wall s trap goes through floor How they explained it when I first started at Reece plumbing many years ago never forget it Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 4Dec 27, 2015 7:09 am OOT - is there a good "solution" to put in a toilet to help clean it - ie move a minor blockage ? Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 6Dec 27, 2015 8:35 pm traveln Ie.what do you class as a minor blockage? Well - the water goes down - slowly - when I use the plunger it works ok. But - I'd like to be sure and give it a good clean. It only happens in one of our toilets. Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 7Dec 27, 2015 8:37 pm Sorry - I bought this pellet stuff - but it says - quite clearly - do not use in toilets ... Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 9Dec 28, 2015 6:53 am traveln If it goes down slowly and rises on every flush you will be needing more then pellets or chemical.could be anything. I would try using a plunger 1st Yes - that seemed to work - but I thought a good cleanse might add to it ... Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 10Dec 28, 2015 8:14 pm Nar on a toilet its more then say like fat and grease like in a sink or shower etc. There is a few different things to look at. Is the toilet on its own branch drain. Does anything else block up. Have you checked the org to see if that is filling up As you can see there are few things to check Is the toilet blocked on its own line or combined with another drain So short answer is you can pour as much chemical and pettets down the drain but until you know what is causing the problem you are wasting money Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 11Dec 29, 2015 1:23 pm I opened the pipe on the border - where the sewerage line is - and it is almost full - would this mean the blockage could be "outside" my property ? Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 12Dec 29, 2015 6:09 pm A-ha - just found out my neighbour has a "problem". Rang council - they are about to put their vast resources into action ! Re: How to tell which kind of toilet pipe I need? 14Dec 31, 2015 7:28 am traveln Sweet that saves a headache for as once it is at the boundry io it is the council problem Yes. Funny - the council guy arrived and may have been a tad sceptical about my knowledge - use of logic in where the problem was. He walked around humming and haa-ing ... then tapped the lids of the sewerage access points. I asked what he was doing and he told me he was sounding them for echo. They were pretty empty he said. So - decided to take the lid off. As he did the "liquid" in it started to slop over the top. "Pretty empty" I agreed with a smile. Opened another - same thing. Clearly the "echo" system isn't always right. I'll need a bigger truck he said. Next came the trucks - 2 or 3. Started pumping. I went out to see how it was going - and the smell drove me back - UNBELIEVEABLE !!! They were all in "moon" gear. Finally 9pm - they were packing up. So I asked the obvious. "NO" we have to come back tomorrow - but you have at least a months allowance now. Next morning heard this tapping and went out - here were a new lot trying to access my u/ground water tanks. Told me they wanted to see the problem. After explaining that would not help I took them to the clearly marked sewerage lids. Apparently our sucking/vacuum system was new to them but they replaced just about everything they could and said it was fixed. All in all a good job. The workers were actually VERY good and helpful. Speedy service and no real issues. Still not sure what they were intending to do with my fresh water from my tanks ... Just another day on the Island ... Hoping someone can help.
