We are planning to renovate our bathroom and only half tile the walls (i.e. tile the wet shower area only) and leave other walls painted.
To finish the floor/wall junction for the non-tiled wall areas, we are considering using either tiled skirting (from floor tiles) or skirting boards. We prefer the look of skirting boards as we can paint it white and match the wall paint colour instead of the grey colour if we choose to do tiled upstands. My question is:
1) I know some skirting boards are marketed as water resistant, but in reality, how good are they? Does anyone have experience/knowledge with using skirting boards in bathrooms? How do they hold up?
2) Would you still apply waterproof membrane behind the skirting board like you would if you used tiled skirts?
3) Can waterproof membrane be applied underneath paint as well?
Thanks in advance guys!
