Not a Myth Damn - thought I had another one ... ... and my own. I use to do it - taught it by a tradie I knew. He claimed it was a good idea. Especially for amateurs. There is a better way than tape. Drill a hole the same diameter through a piece of 16mm thick timber approximately 200x200mm. Put rubber tape on the back side. Use this over the tile to start the hole. Near impossible to slip using this method!! The shower rail is on tiles, and the towel hooks are on the outside of my shower. I reckon if i pulled on them i'd break the glass before i pulled them off!
