AS3000 was amended in December 2012 and here's a summary of the new requirements for air conditioners and heat pumps:
- Air conditioning units and heat pumps are required to be provided with isolation devices mounted adjacent to the appliance (exception – air conditioners supplied from a switchboard dedicated to the control of air conditioners; eg: MSSBs).
- For indoor units of air conditioners connected by plug-socket, the isolator must also isolate the socket outlet supplying the indoor unit.
And a friendly reminder for all electricians installing air conditioners to provide copies of the required paperwork (Certificate of Compliance/Electrical Safety) to the customer and DNSP. In NSW, failure to provide the required documentation within the required timeframe (14 days of connecting load to supply) can result in fines of up to $1000 per instance if investigated by NSW Fair Trading.
