Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 12, 2011 12:11 pm I am in the process of getting some quotes for ducted air-conditioning. Most dealers seem to push their preferred brand, so unless I can get quotes for identical brand and model, it's really hard to compare. I'd like a Daikin inverter, but when I spoke with some companies, they said that they could install Daikin, but it'd cost more. They'd then push Actron or Mitsubitshi. How do I go about making the comparisons? Re: Comparing quotes for ducted air conditioning 2Oct 19, 2011 9:27 am Hi, I would like to know the answer to this question too. We had made up our minds to install an Actron air conditioner but since then everybody we talk to has a different opinion as to why Fujitsu or Mitsubishi is better, cheaper, more efficient etc etc. Please could some unbiased users/installers give me direction as to which they believe is superior. PS money is not the over-riding factor, we just want a superior unit that will do the job! Re: Comparing quotes for ducted air conditioning 3Oct 19, 2011 9:37 am The trick is to do your research first. Then tell them what you want, and where you want things installed. This way they know what your talking about, your bound to get a better price this way. You also need to understand that no two aircond installs are going to be the same, everyone has different ideas. Re: Comparing quotes for ducted air conditioning 4Oct 19, 2011 7:01 pm I was amazed at the difference in prices for the same unit going through different companies. I was quoted $14,500 for a Fujitsu through one company and ended up getting it done through someone else for $10,000 for the same unit. It pays to shop around. We have had our a/c in for 6 months and have not had a problem. Very pleased. Re: Comparing quotes for ducted air conditioning 5Oct 19, 2011 7:12 pm I agree with B Star ... research! We had specific needs for our ducted system (wanted to be able to air condition just one room without having a constant zone on), so systems had to meet the requirements we set out. All the companies pushed their own products (or ones they preferred) and said they could do what we wanted or tried to say no system could do what we wanted. My husband researched, asked questions on forum and then researched some more before we finally signed. In the end we went with an Actron system ... it met all our requirements. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Comparing quotes for ducted air conditioning 6Oct 26, 2011 12:50 pm Thank you all so much for your replies. It can be daunting when it seems theres always someone who has a horror story about the brand you have in mind. But Im sure the leading brands are all worthy of their market share. I did try Choice magazine but they havent done a comparison of ducted zoned refrigerated systems, at least not that I could find. So I'm back to the hype of the manufactureres and/or the sales pitch of the retailers. But I will concentrate on researching the facts, and see where that takes me.
