Could someone let me know how much heat they get from their gas log fire. We are not sure whether to spend the money eg 9K on getting one installed purely for the aesthetic appeal? What do people think. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks

We have a Cannon Fitzroy which we use to heat our home in winter. It's the second one we bought, the last one we put into a house we renovated and sold. [The RE agent said the fire sold the house]

The heat doesn't really get down to the bedrooms but thats not been an issue as it can easily heat about 10 squares. We got this model because of the thermostat remote, double glazed glass front and realistic looking flame.

After a quick Google I think other people would have a different opinion of it. ::surprise::

It depends a lot on what look you like, if you have a shared wall and what type of flue you need etc...

For up to a 100sq meters take a look at

http://www.thefireplace.com.au/images/g ... ide_ss.htm

and

http://www.thefireplace.com.au/images/g ... _fire.html

Or for standard flue arrangements

http://www.thefireplace.com.au/escea.htm#mid

We are currently looking at the lopi as it is a bit smaller and suits the location we have available.

I had another couple that we looked at but will need to find links...

Hi there.

The flat front is definitely what we are after. And we need a horizontal flue.

The lopi looks quite nice. I haven't heard of them before. Are they a good brand?

We put in an archer gas log fire, same as on the home page of this website http://www.auroraclimatesystems.com.au/ They are Australian made and really do heat up a large area, almost to the point you don't need any other form of heating in the area they are in. Good luck

radiuz, are you happy with the archer? I was pretty keen on one but have read some reviews which weren't so positive.

Hi Loretta, yes we are very happy although we have only been in the house since July and ran it almost daily in the winter. We wanted a unit that heated up a large open plan area and it does that very well, almost to the point you only need it on a medium setting. Its cost effective to run and was well priced compared to some of the other big brand gas log fires which do not output anywhere near the same amount of heat. We wanted ours for heating not as a show piece and it has certainly performed well in the short period we have been in our new home.

BTW: Friends of ours also have one and they have had theirs in for about 4 years without any problems or issues, thats where we got the recommendation from. Good luck

Hi Radiuz

That's really good to know. I will look into one more.

Thanks!

Hi Loretta - Did you end up getting an Archer? If so, what do you think of it?

Hi Winthrop

We haven't purchased yet as we are not yet in our house but I have narrowed it down to three fires:

1. the Lopi 564
http://www.pivotstove.com.au/products/p ... s-log-fire

2. the Archer
http://www.auroraclimatesystems.com.au/range.php

3. the rinnai aspiration
http://www.pivotstove.com.au/products/p ... s-log-fire

(But given the price of the aspiration it would have to be a pretty fantastic sale for us to buy that one!)

So the next step is to basically wait till winter is over (we will be moving in towards the end of winter anyway) and then keep an eye out for sales. I would be really happy with either the Lopi or the Archer so I think price will probably win.

What are you looking at?

L

Hi Loretta
I've been looking primarily at the Archer, but I have heard of several retailers who have declined to sell them, apparently due to too many problems. But there are some customers who are very happy with the unit as well. On the whole, I have seen more bad reports than good about the Archer.

I want something reliable and not costing me a service every yr, so I am strongly considering the Rinnai Energysaver 557FTR, which gives me the impression of bullet proof, even if they are a bit boring. Going to look at them today.

Loretta , seeing as you are in Sydney see if you can get to one of the Jetmaster showrooms.
http://www.jetmaster.com.au/
Their range is pretty good for both Jetmaster models but even better the Heatn'Glo brand.
We were very impressed by them and from what the salesman said they sell a lot more of those now than the Jetmaster. They are very efficient and range from 25mj fires up to 100mj fires.
Anyone looking to install a gas log fire should match the heater output ( mj ) to the room size in sq m.

Has anyone out there purchased a Legend DV36 (we've seen them at Schots) and the price seems very good relative to the Heat and Glo so we are a bit suspicious of the quality.

Hi

We are getting the Heat & Glo 550 TRSI Pebbles. The builder is supplying/installing as their cost was almost the same as getting it done externally. One thing to note if we don't like the pebbles you can swap for the logs..

http://www.jetmaster.com.au/index.php?p ... t&Itemid=8

This is the blurb about it..

he popular 550TRSI gas fireplace from Heat & Glo features an impressive 78% efficiency rating, realistic campfyre log set and balanced flue technology. The Heat & Glo 550TRSI draws 100% of its air from outside, not relying on oxygen from within the room. Its versatility and flexibility allow for easy installation in almost any situation, and the ‘IntelliFire’ battery back up electronic ignition system eliminates the need for a continuously burning pilot light. Battery back up ensures your fire will operate even in a power outage.

Features:

IntelliFire ignition system provides fuel savings and easy operation
Realistic ‘ceramic fibre’ campfyre logs
Top or rear venting options provide installation flexibility
Zero clearance provides ease of installation and cost savings
Balanced flue technology provides a sealed combustion chamber maintaining optimum indoor air quality
Variable speed fan with auto on/off
Multifunction remote provides temperature, flame height and start time control
170mm top venting 205mm rear venting
Gas input rate: up to 28mjH
Energy saving 78% efficiency with the authenticity of a traditional fire
3.5 star rating*
