Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 16, 2022 5:25 pm heya all, I've been seeing a lot of WA homes go up now have cavity insulation (reflective foil sheet types). however, these seem to be shoved and jammed from above once both double brick layers are built... shouldn't inner (or outer?) leaf built, then reflective insulation installed with correct overlap, tapes to provide good seal, brick ties poking through it, then second leaf built after? seems like they are just doing it to meet energy requirement but shoving it down like I've seen doesn't look like it will do anything, and also doesn't seem like follows installation guides. Re: double brick cavity reflective insulation - installation 2Mar 16, 2022 6:33 pm You physically can't just push it down the cavity due to the brick ties. Or at least you can't effectively fit it after. The correct process is to brick up one leaf including ties and then fit the insulation by cutting slots in the foil and pushing it onto the ties. There are foam Packers that fit onto the ties as well that keep it off the brick work. I do agree that it is often fitted without a lot of care, but I have never seen it pushed down the cavity after.
