Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Costs to upgrade ceiling and wall insulation 22Apr 11, 2015 9:17 am Well we spent parts of Easter weekend doing insulation to external walls and some internals until we ran out, basically did the garage as that's external wall to the internal rooms (if that makes sense, lol) and between laundry and our WIR to try and keep the noise down if washing. So plaster went up this week and they have basically finished it, looked in the dump pile and there's a handful of the insulation we put in, most probably from somewhere in the garage wall I guess. Damn that annoys me! Re: Costs to upgrade ceiling and wall insulation 23Apr 11, 2015 9:27 am when you say a "handful" of insulation, can you equate it to so many batts in total? I can understand the effort you would have gone to ensure that your walls are properly and fully insulated, as I've done so myself. When the gyprockers were there I followed them around and made that any that got knocked out, where put back in place as I know they wouldn't have been bothered as they don't see the need to insulate properly. If there's a significant amount of batts removed, I'd be speaking to your site SS and demanding to know why this happened and that the gyprock should be removed to replace the missing bits at their expense. Re: Costs to upgrade ceiling and wall insulation 24Apr 11, 2015 9:35 am At a guess probably about 10-15 pieces about 560 wide and approx 1300 In length. I did think of that and want to do that but because we went in there on our own back, spare of the moment thing I feel they will be like too bad so sad. Re: Costs to upgrade ceiling and wall insulation 25Apr 11, 2015 10:10 am 10 to 15 full size batts in the dump bin ? ... that's ridiculous and should not be accepted. That's almost a bag full of batts (depending upon the R rating). I could understand if a few small offcut fill bits fell out, but for that much to fall out just shows negiligence. I would certainly be speaking to your SS about this, particulary as you do not know where these pieces have gone missing from. If you have access to one of those heat sensitive cameras, once the house is sealed up you should be able to spot the hot/cold spots in the walls where the insulation has gone missing, but you need to bring up the issue NOW with the SS. Are you using a private building inspector? if so, make it known to them that this has happened, and that they should run their heat sensor (can't think of the name of it) over the walls and spot where the insulation has gone missing. I'm hoping you got photos of what you put in, and photos of what has now been dumped out. Try and lay it out flat after you remove it from the dump bin, and take a photo of it all layed out flat on the ground to show how much was removed by them. Re: Costs to upgrade ceiling and wall insulation 26Apr 11, 2015 11:14 am That's at a guess, I just saw a pile and got p1ssed off lol. There 1300 long so basically half a stud height. Yeh they obviously couldn't be stuffed dealing with them and just tossed them away, which really annoys me. I don't have access to a thermal imaging camera but id like to be able to see where there missing from. We arnt using a certifier unfortunately, maybe towards the end but not at the moment. I don't think we got photos will have to check as we did take some photos but not alot of the stuff that I think went walk about. I will take photos of the bin this weekend and see. I have a feeling that if I bring it up with the ss he'll be like it's not in contract, you've been on the building site when you shouldn't blah blah blah. He seems like a reasonable guy but I guess if it's not in the contract then it's not his problem Re: Costs to upgrade ceiling and wall insulation 27Apr 11, 2015 1:53 pm Nic and Shell 1 That's at a guess, I just saw a pile and got p1ssed off lol. Since we are next door you can use it for 4 days i'll use it for 3 and split the $250 equally? I can come and help you do the thermal inspection as well if you want. I want to do a thermal imaging inspection myself for all the ceiling batts. And yeah, I'd say, call Garry and ask why those insulation batts were removed..and from where. Unless your batts were affecting electrical safety, he shouldn't have a problem. Not really much I can do if he says no anyways I don't think, as it wasn't up to them to install which annoys me that there just so careless. Couldn't you just get into the ceiling and check to see or is there some hard to reach places? I don't there would be any reason except for laziness, the electricians said all good and plus there's electrical all around the external that is still there Found the answer.
