Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 25, 2014 2:19 pm Hi, I have an ActronAir air-conditioning unit which is approx 6 years old. I have become aware that the fan blades at the top of the unit are quite rusty on the edges. The fan grilles are also turning a little white at the welded wire joints. I am wondering if others have experienced this issue, and if so, how was it fixed. Thank you, Barry Re: Rusty fan blades on ActronAir A/C unit 2Jul 13, 2014 4:47 pm Hi Barry You can have rusted parts treated with a rust treatment agent and either painted or periodically treated with something like lanolin oil. Be aware that the rust at this point is only cosmetic and doesn't affect the operation of the system. Over time ( a long time) it can lead to deterioration of the fan blades where they could fall off eventually and of the fan guard breaking away and becoming inadequate to stop inadvertent contact with the moving blades. Mind you I've seen alot of commercial systems with rusted blades and fan guards that were still operating with no dramas and they'd been used for years day in and day out. hth Re: Rusty fan blades on ActronAir A/C unit 3Jul 21, 2014 9:16 pm I agree with Bels to some degree. The unit will still function no problems, but you will loose some minor efficiency. Why? Well because the corrosion will cause extra drag over the fan blades and create turbulence. I was just reading a Daiken document the other day where they were describing the increases blade efficiency for the motors by incorporating serrated edge blades. It'll be only minor. I would contact Actron. They should not corrode after only 6 years. The life should be way mor than that.
