Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Newcastle landscape journey 21Nov 25, 2016 7:47 pm Wasn't the best planning... the pavers and road base are blocking builder access to the rear patio. And we can't finish the paving til some of the patio roof is built (or the footings and posts are in at least). Looks like we'll need to move them all to the back and make a new pile before laying Oh - looks like we got 4 pallets, not 3! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ A wee pile of road base in the way too... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I dug a trench and laid some stormwater for the patio roof. I wanted to get it out into the future grass area so we could continue with the paving as the roof won't be built until next year. So stoked with my efforts. Took two half days to dig and do the piping. I now have hardcore landscaper hands. Super feminine Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'll be honest, i"m not entirely sure how deep its meant to be. It's 500 which is as deep as i could get it to join to the pipe behind the retaining wall. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We then covered it. Talk about a weird feeling. Filling in a hole i spent so long making didnt feel right. Left a hole at the end so we/future builder can easily connect into it. Made a fair few mistakes ... like the blocks fill with water when it rains (maybe when we seal/glue the caps on they wont?) And they don't drain.... Had to order a few more blocks and caps - spot the colour change :O Ah well, bigger problems in the world! Will need to make the step caps out of all new ones. I figure it can be partly in ground.. I also didn't measure its location. Ha! All good The tricky bit is going to come once we get it all set up... how to stop kids drowning... Im thinking it will have a wire grille, or filled with gravel on top of a grille thing, fish underneath with 10cm of water on top.. pipes for fish to swim through and underneath.. will get to it later. Otherwise it's onto plan B: Pond Safey Net We're making progress with the garden beds: A few timber cappings missing, but dirt is ready for planting. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I tell you what- how hardy is grass. It's all grown back! We haven't bought any new turf. Such a shame its all bumpy and unlevel and we want it levelled properly. You wont see the trampoline in this view, it will be more to the right out of the image. Pathway down to shed, via vege patches at the back, cubby and sand pit in the middle/back, nestled between two jacarandas, some mini eucalypt around the edges, lilly pilly along the back brick wall/fence. It's going to great.. if we don't run out of money before hand- and if we ever just simply finish it! It's all taking sooooo long. I keep thinking "we'll knock over this paving today" but nooo . Will be an amazing space, I would love a yard that size Follow my build viewtopic.php?t=83885 Thank you. The grass looks lush in the photo but the backyard grass is all weedy and sparse. Needs a lot of TLC to make it nicer if we decide to keep it. We wanted buffalo. I'll check out your thread tonight Re: Newcastle landscape journey 35Dec 16, 2016 5:39 pm Cat, I wants to give you a hand but I live farrrrrr from you. Don't be discouraged with the amount of work needs to be done. You have done so well... and look at that beautiful side paving ( top pic ), may possibly take one year for me to do just the side path. Took me 7 years to complete landscaping with my previous house. After seeing the amount of materials you have used ...I'm reconsidering budget for my landscaping... Take your time.... and enjoy what you have achieved. Big hugs from me. viewtopic.php?=31&t=81624 Re: Newcastle landscape journey 36Jan 11, 2017 4:25 pm cat_dunc I've drawn our house and yard in 3D to work out with my husband how we'll build things. Easier to sell my ideas to him too Our "rough" plan for the front: http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r759/cat_dunc/Driveway%204_zpsqx8gn9qh.jpg I am reading your thread now. So far it looks fantastic. What program did you use to do your house and yard in 3D? Thank you Re: Newcastle landscape journey 38Jan 11, 2017 9:56 pm We haven't done any more paving because we don't have a brick saw, we're meant to be borrowing one but it hasn't happened yet so might just hire one for the day. We've filled in the garden beds with organic soil and horse manure and planted the collection of free plants we've been given. There's four frangapanis (not sure on colour), a heap of bromeliads, two bottle brush, 6 gravilias, 4 acmenas (Lilly pillys?) and a heap of these tall spindly looking plants (only small still as they were cuttings). We aren't sure what plants we want but have now decided we want the gardens to look "lush". It's a fair change from my "pink, purple and grey cottage garden" look we started with The closest I can come to that describes lush is maybe "sub-tropical"? Either way as you can tell we have a way to go! Plants are spaced into lots of gaps mostly to make the gardens look nicer as we had our first biggish party the other day we'll move them around as the other garden beds are prepared and have chosen other plants.
