Hi there
I have a big problem with on-going, persistent weeds in my frontyard and nature strip.
Front yard was landscaped by the builder just before I moved in 2 years ago. The nature strip has lilydale topping.
At the moment I am out pulling weeds (or spraying Roundup) almost every weekend (I alternate frontyard and backyard each weekend). It is doing my head (and back and knees) in as I dont want to spend every Saturday morning tackling weeds.
I want to do something in the front yard so reduce the amount of time I am spending here (the backyard is only soil at the moment).
1. Area with the white decorative stones - as this is mainly stones, should I remove the stones, lay down weed mat (I have read a lot of posts on weedmats on this forum!) and top it up with the stones?
Or should I get additional white stones and top up the area to inhibit weed growth?
The stones actually make it quite hard to pull some weeds out from the roots.
curiously enough the area to the left of the picture, where the conical trees are, does not get many weeds, maybe 1-2 every 4-5 weeks or so. Don't quite know why
2. I am going to remove the square of aritificial truf laid down there and move the feature plant (the spiky green one) there and surround it with some more natives.
3. What do I do with the nature strip? This part gets LOTS of weeds including ones that spread along the ground and are quite tough to pull out. A friend suggested adding more lilydale topping, but I have cars parked on my nature strip quite often, wont that just keep eroding the topping? Is a Weedmat under this a good idea?
4. I am also going to move some of the plants around as the flax grass have gotten quite big and need to spaced apart (oh and I have noticed snails settled in thier centre so that is one more thing to handle!)
