Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 19, 2013 2:34 pm Heeeelp!!!! I'm building a new farmhouse and I want to get the lawn right... we spend a lot of time outside. I have read all of the turf forums on here, the Hal report, and several websites that seem to be slightly biased.... I need some real advice. I live in central west nsw, we have hot summers, avg rainfall of 550mm per year, a handful of frosts each winter. I am looking for a nice, kid friendly lawn, low maintenance, low water. Lawn would be mostly full sun except for next to the house, which would be in shade 70%. The soil has been farmed until now... is very fertile, had lupins 3 years ago so nitrogen should be good. Need to do 6-800m. I dont like traditional kik... ropey and scratchy... but open to other kikes, buffalo etc. Was going to turf, but am now considering seed if the right option was available. Any opinions or experiences, especially in a similar climate would be great!! Re: Central West NSW turf?? 2Oct 19, 2013 4:42 pm There really is only one alternative (in my opinion) to Kikuyu turf and that would be Sir Walter Buffalo. The climate sounds very hot and dry? If it is i wouldn't recommend any of the other more sensitive varieties of turf. I would go with turf instead of seed due to the scale of the site. It would be much easier and quicker to get the lawn established by turfing. Kind Regards Julian Dapple Landscape Design Landscape plans on sale for May & June only!
