They fruit in summer, If you can wait grab some fruit. The seeds are super easy to grow and they shoot fast. Once its big enough treat it to a good diet and feed regularly while its in a pot. When you plant it out, give a deep hole full of compost and sand.
These make a sensational feature tree in a front yard also. Like so many fruiting trees, they will perform and look better than many unproductive trees.
And if I remember back to my childhood the fruit is delicious. My grandmother had a tree in her backyard and it was always my job to climb the tree and pick the fruit that she couldn't reach from the ground.
Geoguo if you can't find a tree and want to buy an established one, flick me a PM and I'll give you the name of a wholesale nursery where I got my Loquat tree, he also has many other grafted fruit and nut trees and as Fu often says, a productive tree is more beneficial, specially in a smaller garden. Not sure he'd want his name posted as the retail arm of his business is very small, but I know he ships trees all over the country. Would expect you would need to wait until around April/May but no harm in asking, if you don't have any luck locally.
i had grand plans for quite an orchard in our house, but it seems we have a possum problem, so will have to re think it for now until the other reno's are done
I haven't even seen the fruit here in the shops......takes me back to visiting Nanna and Papa
