This is most likely the type of side fence we will be erecting :

We want to spray paint it in JASPER, to match our garage door. As it's treated pine, does it need to be primed/sealed first & with what ?

It would be better (although not imperative) to apply a coat of acrylic primer sealer undercoat. Treated pine and pine is very porous and an undercoat would provide better adhesion and filling properties giving you a better, more durable finish. Two coats of weathersheild in your desired sheen should cap it off nicely... :P

The majority of outdoor paints these days do not require undercoating as stated on the labels

Hi Southies

I have started painting a similar fence over the weekend...only with a brush...not sprayed :( ...so its a slow job.....but with Weathershield looks like it will only need the one coat, as its a self priming/top coat etc.

Hey Southies

Oh painting damn fences, isn't it a pain, especially with a brush. The course texture of the pine adds to the frustration.

I recently painted our front-side fence with a generic fence paint from Bunnings. Can't recall the name now, but the options were limited in terms of color, so went for what I thought was quite neutral, it's a blue-grey color.

Jasper is the color of our door also, if you can get that paint color as an outdoor paint, then I'm sure it will be fine as is?

There's a pic of the fence on the blog if you want to check it out, you can see it in one of the pics of the crossover/driveway.

Cheers
Chris

Wow, you've done so much work on that side fence ! I like the colour you used !
We've since decided not to paint the pine fencing. DH wants to let it weather. He thinks the weathered look will go with the ozzie natives we'll be planting along the length of the nature strip. I have my doubts :? I don't think the pine will last if not protected from the elements, as evidenced in pics supplied by kexkez in our thread : http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=10142&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=330
