Post subject:  How to remove this shower water tap?

Hi there,

The shower head in my bathroom keeps dripping water, I am trying to fix it by myself. However I couldn't find a way to remove the water tap. Please see the photos below. Just want to see if anybody else had experiences with this kind of tap and can give me some help. Thank you very much.

If you were having trouble removing the tap's handle, it could be like mine. These need a special small hand tool that fits underneath the tap handle. I got a couple for nothing from a plumbing supplier.

Thanks for the tip. Would you mind tell me what the tool looks like?

BTW, yes, I mean the tap handle.

However in my case there is no visible screws to remove. I used a mirror to look under the handle. I can see something like a brass o-ring between the handle and the spindle.

What you need is a little spanner thing with 2 prongs that grip into the small grooves in the brass nut under the handle, to undo it. Bent circlip pliers, bent needle nose pliers would also do the job. Be careful when you take the handle off, there is a small circlip the slots onto the spindle and there is also a small o-ring in there as well.

The tool in question is a small (about 70 mm long) single piece of metal bent to make a spanner. It would take no more than 10 cents to make each which is why mine was free. Ask at plumbing supply shop and you're likely to be given one. I was given two, but then I bought some stuff at the time.

THe tap handle is held on by a concealed locking nut and a horseshoe shaped clip. You need the tool mentioned earlier to remove the concealed locking nut. (although you could try using your fingernails to unscrew it. sometimes they have worked themselves loose.

If you dont need to replace the o rings on the spindle shaft, you could unscrew the wall flange after opening the tap to the full position. After youve loosened the wall flange there should be enough room to get a shifting spanner onto the square shaped spindle body and unscrew it. Once you unscrew and remove the tap spindle etc you can replace the washer and reseat the tap.

Thank you so much. I found this tool at a hardware store and successfully removed the tap handle. It's called Tap Head Spanner. :D
