Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Mar 04, 2024 9:42 pm I need some advice regarding issues with the roof structure. I'm concerned about a crack in the hanging beam where it rests on the wall. It seems to be the only problem; the others appear to be fine. Do you think this crack is serious? Is it possible to repair it instead of replacing the entire beam? Repairing it might be possible, but it's essential to consult with a structural engineer or a qualified builder to assess the severity and recommend the best course of action. What I'm trying to say is that it looks as serious as cancer. Re: roof structure issues 3Mar 05, 2024 5:12 am Yes, need an engineer to inspect it. Pulse it’s just a split from the two skew nails, no problem at all, ideally you should have more bearing distance but it’s not going to fail. Re: roof structure issues 6Mar 05, 2024 10:17 am Does anyone have an idea of how much it might cost to replace this roof strut beam? It won't be a straightforward job; we might need engineer drawings and a building permit. Re: roof structure issues 7Mar 10, 2024 9:23 am not a huge problem, just contact a local roofing company or engineer and see what they say Re: roof structure issues 8Mar 10, 2024 9:45 am homediyguy not a huge problem, just contact a local roofing company or engineer and see what they say Thanks for the advice, will get an structural engineer to inspect.
