Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Oct 31, 2019 11:30 pm I'm in need of a couple of freestanding square concrete pillars only about 1.2m high to hang a fence off. Tried to get a few quotes, but some people not turning up (I guess the job is too small) or ridiculously expensive (maybe again the job is too small), so I figured I might do this myself. Thinking of using my auger to dig a 600mm hole into the soil and putting a forming tube in it and filling with concrete. Then digging a square base and tamping down a layer of crushed rock to form the base for the square pillar itself. I could build a brick pillar around the concrete pile, then put a cement render over the bricks, but that seems like a lot of unnecessary work. Alternatively would I be able to find a precast square concrete pillar with a hole to fit over the pile? Lifting it into place would be another problem in itself. Or are there similar precast concrete blocks that fit over a pile that come in short more manageable sections that stack on top of each other? Any ideas who I should go for this - I'm in Melbourne. Or do you think this is just a bad idea? My build with Inspired/ Como Homes: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=93656 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 8587 get them to replace the chipped tiles. It will stick out like a sore thumb overwise. Also tiler will be siliconing the miters rather than grouting. Grouted miters crack… 1 4247 Hi, have purchased a house with 2 single garage doors.
