Post subject:  Ikea - Now Selling Cstone

Just went browsing on the Ikea website and they have an announcement that they are now selling 20mm & 40mm benchtops in ceasarstone. Would be interesting to see how they compare to normal suppliers (I was lucky to buy all mine at an auction so can't compare my prices!)

I’d be more interested how it gets joined and fitted? :?

You just beat me to it Michelle.

I have yet to meet a stonemason who will install someone elses product.

We recently tried to find a mason who would machine and install some Australian Bluestone a client had sourced and really wanted to use.

All the masons I spoke to claimed they didn't want the responsibility of handling a third party material - and this makes a certain amount of sense given that if they damage it they have to fix it and if they haven't supplied it in the first place they are more likely to risk ending up out of pocket.
This obviously also applies to masons who supply Caesarstone as they aren't making any money on providing the product in the first place and will only be able to charge for their labour.
But I am happy to be proven wrong if someone can point me to an independent installer...but the question remains who will pay for more material if anything happens to the product?

Having said that, if all you need out of the tops are the standard lengths that Icheya are going to offer then you might have a chance of getting some good prices as it is hard to compete with their volume purchasing.

Cheers,

Earl

Strumer, we have a stonemason who is happy to do just that. We bought our cstone at a clearance auction as it was discontinued colours. It was so cheap that I bought 6 x 3m long lengths - just to make sure we had enough to do our kitchen. We then found a stonemason in our local area who was (a) happy to store it for us - spoke to him this morning because we thought he might be wondering where we had gone - he has been holding it since April / May (b) is going to do all our benchtops for the kitchen and the laundry. He laughed when he saw how much I had ordered - told me I had enough for 3 kitchens but I just wanted to make sure should something happen to one piece we wouldn't then be short.

I must be really lucky to have struck the right stonemason. Now the cabinet maker on the other hand is another story!! We are now going through someone the stonemason works really closely with (and we have personally known the original cabinet maker for close to 20yrs but he still is being totally inflexible).

We bought 7 sheets of stone all up - 6 for the kitchen and one for the laundry in another colour. All up with buyer's premium and delivery it came to a little over $900 - they came directly from Ceasarstone Company and they very nicely arranged for delivery on our behalf.

Our stonemason has quoted around $1500 for his work on the benchtops - a massive saving when the quote for supply and manufacture from one stonemason for our 4m island bench with waterfall sides was around $5k - much happier this way methinks.

Sounds like you are onto a very good thing there, and the prices are quite attractive as well - you wouldn't like to have a chat with him and see if he can be convinced to move to Brisbane would you?

Or maybe we could clone him...

Earl.

Strumer - sorry but I am not letting him go anywhere until my house is finished (and since we haven't even gone into council yet that is at least 12mths away!!)

 Just saw this thread, and I was actually at Ikea yesterday and did a double take when I went past a kitchen display, and thought "gee, that looks SO much like stone!!!" which, of course, it was!!!!

I don't know that it's any cheaper from them, and I didn't check if you can just buy lengths of it , or if you can just get it s part of your Ikea kitchen....?

IKEA stone benches are local, clients use local suppliers and local stonemasons. The same goes for the PERSONLIG custom made laminate benchtops. The typical IKEA benchtops, very cheap, are in limited choices demand dictated introduction of local products. As for all the custom made products clients get in touch with local fitters if they want, IKEA has a list of them but are not IKEA emploees.

Hope this explains. When we planned our kitchen I made all the enquieries, however, we ended up with getting prefabricated stone slabs from overseas and a local stonemason fitted them for us. The cost $3400 for two L shaped benches 2.4m/1.25m with one round cutout for the sink and tap.
