Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jun 03, 2016 2:31 pm We about to start building our new home, I have planned for my cooktop to be on the island bench. We are having raked ceilings and at the point where the cooktop will be, the floor to ceiling height will be around 3.6 meters. Do I necessarily require a rangehood exhaust, or could I get away with a ceiling mounted heller type exhaust fan. I'm just a little worried about grease marks ceilings etc..... New to all this so sorry if it seems a silly question, but opinions and thoughts on the way forward would be much appreciated. Thanks Re: Exhaust / rangehood above island with high ceilings 2Jun 03, 2016 4:10 pm You will need a good quality rangehood, swegion Make one where the moter is away from the rangehood resulting in a super quiet rangehood which you can use on high and hardly hear it, this will save your kitchen from that yellow grease look. Re: Exhaust / rangehood above island with high ceilings 3Jun 03, 2016 4:22 pm We didn't want anything on our ceiling so opted for a Sirius downdraft. Was bit of a risk but it works really well. As the motor is external mounted your island bench cannot be too far from external wall for this to work. http://siriusbrand.com/work-category/downdraft-series/ Re: Exhaust / rangehood above island with high ceilings 4Jun 03, 2016 4:32 pm Joker You will need a good quality rangehood, swegion Make one where the moter is away from the rangehood resulting in a super quiet rangehood which you can use on high and hardly hear it, this will save your kitchen from that yellow grease look. That looks interesting, my nearest external wall is 4.6m away from the island. Although the kitchen area is actually on stumps so might it be possible to exhaust to the underneath of the house? Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
