Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 24, 2012 2:23 pm Hi, Hope this hasn't been done to death, but I've done a search and couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm having some difficulty choosing what brand oven to get. I was going F & P but then realised the inside was too small. So was then considering Electrolux/Westinghouse due to their large interior but have started to hear some really bad stuff about them. I'm also confused about whether to go 2 separate wall ovens, or 1 double oven. I have been told that 2 separate can work better. I am no masterchef, but do enjoy cooking and need more than just a single oven as I have found that very difficult where I am currently. Please tell me what you have, if you like it, any problems, how long you have had it etc etc Thanks Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 2Apr 24, 2012 4:21 pm I got a westinghouse cos it has an 80 lit capacity as opposed to about 60 standard I can get 3 racks in there, cooking at once. Im really happy with it, cos it didnt cost much ($1000) and the size is ok for me. I got a smeg convection microwave to use for 'deserts' if the oven is full, but in a year have not even used it as an oven! (use it as a microwave all the time), I can always fit something in, or I do a desert in the crockpot we have a really basic model. http://www.westinghouse.com.au/Product? ... EB23D34A0D it was the 80 lits and the price that sold me. I needed 2 roast dishes and a baking tray in there at once etc Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 3Apr 24, 2012 6:44 pm We have a Westinghouse wall oven. Sorry, I don't know the size or details. I guess it is about ten years old now. We had to have the thermostat replaced a couple of years after we purchased our house, so maybe about five years into the life of the oven, but since then it has worked perfectly. One thing the service technician told me was that if something goes wrong with your choice of oven, it is far easier and more economical for a service technician to source and replace parts for models like Westinghouse than it is for Eurpoean models like Smeg, Miele etc. Having said that, our new home has a Miele, just because that is what was installed, not because I particularly wanted one (even though it looks beautiful!) I think your choice will be mostly influenced by the size of the oven you are after, but I can't really speak on that because i don't really use my oven for much more than heating up pies! *ducks for cover* cheers, caz Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 4Apr 24, 2012 6:50 pm What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 5Apr 24, 2012 11:14 pm We have chosen a Westinghouse can't remember the model number. My mum is replacing her oven and the guy that came out told her they recommend Westinghouse and Miele, her current Westinghouse oven is about 20 years old and is still fine except the glass has come loose with the door being slammed all the time. Help & Advice needed please 6Apr 25, 2012 10:37 am Lol Kiwi you always make me laugh. Thanks for the comments everyone, great to hear some positives about WH as I really do love their sizing, and am reluctant to pay more for an oven and effectively get less.... Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 7Apr 25, 2012 6:50 pm LOL @ kiwi - well to be fair - we haven't yet moved into our new home so I haven't yet done anything more than open the door of the new oven, let alone turn it on and cook with it. So you think I might need to have some oven use lessons? I'm pretty sure my Man will be pleased about that. caz Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 8Apr 25, 2012 7:16 pm I've decided to go the Electrolux 1.5 oven. The size is just too good and I really like the telescopic shelves Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 9Apr 25, 2012 7:43 pm Are they the things that come with it? Pull right out, has a baking tray attached along with 2 oven trays? If so Westinghouse has that too. Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 11Apr 25, 2012 8:03 pm Ok, just so you know they both have em incase you decide to go with Westinghouse . Mine isn't self clean though...I'm hoping it will turn into that one day Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 12Apr 25, 2012 8:05 pm LOL yeah the Electrolux has that but goodness knows how well it actually works. My current oven is about 20 years old, I'm just excited to be getting fan forced never mind all the other bells and whistles Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 13Apr 25, 2012 8:09 pm Fan forced!! You will love that. The clean thing..you have to put it up to,500 deg for about an hour or so and the sides come clean but not the bottom...an hour at 500! I could spend less on a cleaner for that sort of electricity price Enjoy your new oven, you will love it Re: What oven do you have? I'm pretty sure my Man will be pleased about that. caz Caz, Miele have free cooking courses, which my DH has decided I need to go too, but I am sure that Miele will heat pies up beautifully, whereas I am a little more advanced in the cooking skills, I use mine to heat pizzas up as well Oh and I'm having 4 Miele ovens, one pie in each Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 15Apr 26, 2012 11:27 pm At first, I was determine to get a swish bang oven with a whole bunch of bells and whistles. Over the last 12 months, I have considered how I use the oven and this has made me revise my expectations. I think the important features to consider are - internal width and depth of oven cavity. (ie. does my large roasting pan/lasagne dish/baking tray fit inside the oven?) - thermostat accuracy/display - how can I set the temp? How accurate is it? (some go up in 1 degree increments with a digital display, others are a turn knob with markers every 30 degrees or so) - safety (do I want a door with double, triple or quadruple glazing? child lock?) - telescopic rails (makes it easier to put things in and take things out of the oven) - oven self-cleaning functionality? (ie. pyrolytic, steam clean, catalytic, etc) To be honest, I just want an oven with normal bake, fan forced and grill. I don't need 14 cooking functions when I know I'm really only going to use 3 functions. I'm not a fancy cook but I do want a reliable oven. So far, my choice is 600mm/60cm Electrolux Electric Wall Oven EOEE62CS (80L). Or a Bosch .... As I said earlier I am used to one function and just adjusting temperature. It's a bit scary really, I am going to have to learn how to recook everything As for needing 2 - well that is why we are going the EUEE63CS the 1.5oven It's better energy wise to only use the half oven when I am just cooking some garlic bread, heating up a pie or whatever, but obviously still need the big oven for when I roast or cook multiples. kiwi - I looked into the Westinghouse but can't see that it has the same telescopic shelves? may check this tomorrow with the Goodguys I have found the cooktop selection quite hard too, and to be honest am settling for one I don't like the look of - just because I can't justify spending double the price to get a more attractive one. I'm sure I will adjust to the looks and spend that money in a better place elsewhere Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 17Apr 29, 2012 5:57 am the link I posted above is the oven I have..I think. It looks like that on the outside anyway. maybe there are 2 models, one with the shelves and one without. mine came with 2 racks and 2 brown shelves that you could pull right out. I took the shelves out though as they get in the way of my roasting dishes, so only use the very top one if needed. good luck with the hob. dont go baumatic. I did and although it looks good, it is a bit useless. (I got ceramic, should have paid $600 more and gone for basic induction with another brand) Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 18Apr 29, 2012 11:44 am The cooktop brand is Fisher & Paykel. It looks a bit too stainless, but just can't justify another $600-$700 to have glass...just hope the stainless doesn't scratch up to easily Just spoke to Harvey Norman - no the Westinghouse doesn't have the telescopic shelves which I do think will be quite handy (I'm looking at the duo oven which is probably why yours does have it Kiwi). Their price isn't as good as the GoodGuys either so think it's time to say 'yes' to our quote. Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 19Apr 29, 2012 12:21 pm You go girl!! Yes to electrolux!! Re: What oven do you have? Help & Advice needed please 20Nov 19, 2012 9:59 pm Hi there. I'm also doing the search for kitchen appliances. How have you found the Electrolus duo oven? I was very keen on this oven until I read all the negative reviews regarding temperature accuracy. At the moment I am leaning towards a Bosch 1.5 oven but it does have a smaller capacity. Do you find the telescopic rails useful or do they get in the way? Thanks A question.
