Keen to hear your views/experiences as am deciding between the Kubus KBX 110-70 and Planar8 PEX 110-72.
Thanks in advance ::smile::

I have the Kubus 110 34 - not quite as large as the one you are after.
The Kubus sink bottom is flat - slightly tapering to the outlet, whereas I see the Planar has four surfaces that 'fall' to the outlet. In a large sink I suggest this would drain better, not that the flat surface of the Kubus doesn't, but you can see occasional tea leaves in there that haven't flushed out.
Franke sinks are top sinks and provide an excellent under mount finish but if I had my druthers I think I would now go for a flush mount sink where the edge of your bench surface at the sink would be in no danger of chipping. I have seen some discussions elsewhere in these threads where some have complained about chipped sink edges. Hasn't yet occurred to us but you think about it.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply barkly.

As a matter of interest, have you found that any difference with features on the kubus such as the 'hygienic integrated waste' and 'bowl insulation'?

Sorry, I am not familiar with 'hygienic integrated waste' in respect of our model Franke sink - others may know of it and comment - some additional feature other than the sink outlet I presume. There is spray on insulation around all external surfaces of the sink plus an extra glued on sheet of some form of insulation on the base of the sink. Is effective in noise deadening.

We have the Peak series undermounted with Antique brown granite benchtop. Looks fabulous! Very modern and stylish.
Peak more expensive than Planar but if if you go for the single bowl version not too much from memory.
Plus the Peak series comes with a cool integrated knob controlled drain stopper (included in box).
Peak bowl also insulated (has coating on the underside of the bowl)
Still being installed so can't comment on use.

The Peak is really gorgeous sink! Did you go for the single bowl option too?

Effective noise deadening sounds good ... especially since my kitchen is open and next to the living area.

Yes, got the same bowl size as you are looking at PKX 110-70
http://www.franke.com/kitchensystems/au ... etail.html

Rationale is that most of our dishes are washed in the dishwasher so a dual bowl is not so necessary. The large size will be great for the pots and pans. Also less likely to chip the sides of the stone as common in small undermount sinks. We do however have a second smaller sink in the island bench.

The Peak bowl is not as deep as the Planar8 - 180mm vs 200 mm (plus the thickness of your bench as it is undermount).
From memory the Planar is not insulated (coated under the basin) but the Peak is.
On RRP, just checked and it is $470 more though.
Whats the difference between Planar8 and Planar?
The double bowl Peak was astronomically expensive.

We got down to the planar8 ($1029) and kubus large bowl ($1099) as that was pretty much the max we wanted to spend!
As for the double bowl vs single bowl conundrum, your rational is exactly what we thought ie large size makes it easier for oven trays/large pots/pans & less likely to chip... but then "everyone" has been talking us out of it with advice such as a 2 bowl option is better if we were to wash hands etc....
