Re: Our KDR journey on Lake Macquarie- frames! 54Jul 18, 2016 2:00 pm Michael589010 Awesome work. You effort to knock down yourself and go through a design process from scratch are impressive! We are planning a knock down in Lake Mac soon too. Did you get quotes for the knock down? I would have no idea how to even consider doing that myself Thanks, it has been a bit of a mission but have learnt alot along the way. Our building designer was great in the design phase as we could ask him anything we weren't sure on and of course I'm forever searching this forum! We didn't get quotes for the knockdown as the house wasn't that big. My husband is pretty handy type of guy and we have quite a few friends in trades like excavation which helped with the $$'s. It probably would of been around $10k if we had just got a demo company in and around $15k if you include the asbestos removal (which we had done externally). When we submitted our DA house plans to council we just included the demolition in with it. Then as soon as we got approval, we strated the demo while finalising everything with the building company. We picked up a mistake that was made with the height of the garage door as ours is higher than standard so they had to spend some time fixing that up the next day. Our 3m ceilings in our stepped down part of the house make it feel massive even though its not that big which is a bonus. The windows look much bigger than I imagined though... its hurting me thinking of the cost of window coverings lol. We found out on Thursday from our SS that a great tiler is contracted to our job.. so excited!! We were chatting to a local who had his whole house tiled by him and he said he did a top job. Next weeks schedule - finish upper level, windows in, scaffolding up and start roof etc and cladding.
