Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 24, 2015 11:45 pm Hi there, This is our first home. House is currently at base stage. Garage foundation is done and footing to be completed end of week being the 27/03/15. Building in Yeppoon, QLD!! EXTERIOR Colours is where we are REALLY stuck!! We pretty much had our colours picked and finalised. However some things got into my head in regards to resale and longetivity of darker shades. So we had: Dark blue exterior on cladding (Was going to test pot Taubmans "Deep Water") We originally had a "Eagle Ray" from Solver but after speaking with a Paint Place rep stated that in Sunlight the Eagle Ray will look very bright. So best to pick a darker shade than what we were after and test that during the day as it will appear brighter and lighter. Roof: Colorbond Windspray Gutter/Fascia: Monument Soffits: Shale Grey Gable Entry in Edge Clad: Shale Grey Garage Double Door: Shale Grey Window Trim: Ultra Silver Security Screens: Black Our Deck Balustrade: Monument HWD Posts: "House Colour" Blue Now..... Paint place rep also stated that we would probably look at needing repainting as of 8 years old due to the fade from dark colours. With resale 'possibly' on the mind in 4-5 years we are looking into redoing the entire colour scheme to somewhat more neutral for the main colour. So stuck here. I love white with the Deep Ocean roof and garage door type scheme - My wife isn't a fan. She doesn't like the bright white exterior. So she is going for more of a lighter bluey grey exterior. Found this photo on Houzz. http://www.houzz.com.au/photos/20846294 ... ther-metro We would love the Monument garage door. Would also love to keep the Windspray roof. No idea of the gutters/fascia or the gable though. Then probably stick with Monument for balustrade and HWD Posts on the deck. Would this new scheme look and work?? What would work as the main colour? What for the gable and gutter/fascia? Much appreciated. Jason & Josie. Scarborough cladding exterior 2Mar 25, 2015 10:37 am I like the sound of your original colour scheme boony, but if you're set on resale in 4-5 years then maybe a more neutral scheme would be better? I guess it depends on if you want to do what *you* want or what a future buyer might want. Scarborough cladding exterior 3Mar 25, 2015 12:37 pm Thanks Ilaeria, We are hoping for something that will do both. Just the thoughts of if we were a buyer and in say 5 years time. If it required a new coat of paint to pop that colour back up. Would influence the buying price. Although we spoke to our builder. He said "Yes, dark external wall paint can show up a faded look over time. This effect is limited with the new paints like Taubmans All Weather Gloss". So more driving around and looking at some ideas. Only problem is nearly every estate has brick homes or they are rendered. Their are a few cladded houses so will go for a drive and a looksee at them all anyway. Re: First home colour ideas. Scarborough cladding exterior 4Mar 25, 2015 12:44 pm There's one in my estate that has a Colorbond "Deep Ocean" roof and a dark blue cladding on the facade with stained wood barring. It looks very nice. And if it does fade and need a new coat of paint, maybe you can do that yourself before you sell, if it does need it? Scarborough cladding exterior 5Mar 25, 2015 9:39 pm We were looking around and scrolled past this on the Dulux gallery and it caught my eye. Roof: Colorbond "Woodland Grey" Gutter: Same as roof?? Fascia Board: ?? Thinking Shale Grey and also the Soffits as Shale Grey?? OR Leave Fascia same as Gutter?? And Soffits as DUNE?? Exterior: Colorbond "Dune" Gable: Colorbond "Dune" Garage Door: Colorbond "Monument" We love the dark colour. Being able to see majority of the roof from the road we thought having garage door same as the roof just might be too much of one colour?? Thoughts?? Front door: We like a woody oak colour door. Same as with the HWD Timber deck posts. We have a 32m2 deck with "Red Rock" Eko Deck also. http://www.bunnings.com.au/ekodeck-88-x ... -_p0120933 Balustrade: Black Window frames: Black or Ultra Silver?? Security Screens: Black Down pipes, etc same as house colour How would all that look?? I feel it may match with the backdrop of the mountains and stuff? Scarborough cladding exterior 7Apr 10, 2015 10:32 pm We are getting monument for roof and garage door, but we have a strong front door colour so kept the facade colours fairly matchy-matchy so they didn't compete with it. I think having the monument door will make it look a bit more contemporary and add a little interest ——— Sent from Tapatalk My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76446 Jen (& Dave) Plantation Bronte, Ormeau Ridge, Gold Coast QLD 12/03/2015 - Commencement... 26/08/2015 - Handover! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76446 Re: First home colour ideas. Scarborough cladding exterior 8Apr 11, 2015 12:03 pm Hmmmm. Roof Woodland Grey. Garage Door and Gable Monument? Cladding exterior in Dune. Our front door we are after a Wood oak colour. How does that sound or more so look? Re: First home colour ideas. Scarborough cladding exterior 9Apr 11, 2015 3:13 pm I think probably the gable should be either the same as the roof or the same as the cladding. Our gable is the same as our front render colour. If you have it monument its kind of dark-on-dark and won't really show. If you have it same as the roof it will blend in. If you have it same as the cladding it'll still be a feature but not overdone. Which gives me a good idea on what to look at. He stated he had a but of trouble getting the Woodland Grey correct.. As it doesn't usually look that green on the house. So... Small remaining issues... Undecided on Gable colour... Monument, Woodland Grey or... Dune?? Thinking running Roof, Gutter and Fascia as Woodland Grey...?? Soffits: I did have Shale Grey or would mainting Dune as the Soffit colour look better? Much appreciated, Jason. Re: First home colour ideas. Scarborough cladding exterior 11Apr 20, 2015 6:01 pm Is dune the colour of the house now? I'd recommend you have roof/gutter/fascia as one colour. Soffits can be same as house or same as roof or just white. With this style of gable I like it the same colour as the house. Scarborough cladding exterior 12Apr 20, 2015 6:30 pm Yer the more I look at it I agree. Monument as the gable would be dark on dark fighting with the roof. And worse as Woodland Grey. So sticking with Dune. Yes the Exterior clad we will be sticking with the Colorbond Dune. As for soffits white or mix it up with a bit of Shale Grey?? Re: First home colour ideas. Scarborough cladding exterior 13Apr 20, 2015 6:36 pm Id recommend soffits as white or dune. Having another colour will make it too busy I think.
