Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 17, 2011 7:19 pm Hi, am renovating a 40 year old house that has cedar ceilings and windows - all of which were stained mission brown. We have sanded them back to natural and finished them with a clear finish. We are now trying to coordinate wall colors and have a couch that is the same colour as white duck 1/2. Wood (would) love to hear if anyone has a picture of white duck half as a wall color.
thanks Re: white duck 2Mar 17, 2011 7:22 pm We have used white duck in our home.....although the painting is still in progress. We have full stength white duck in the bathrooms and half strength elsewhere. I can probably get some pics some time next week to share...Just remind me (if I forget) Re: white duck - is it too grey? What strength? Other option 5Mar 18, 2011 9:33 am I don't find it too grey at all! It obviously has grey undertones but it comes up on the walls as a lovely nice 'neutral' colour. We have it full strength in our bathrooms as we have a rich dark chocolate floor tile and the 1/2 strength looked 'too washed out' in those spaces. We probably won't worry about window coverings in the wet areas and find that with lots of light in those areas the full strenth white duck works the best. At one point I was thinking we could have used full strength white duck for other parts of the house but by the time I realised it would have looked ok, my husband had already painted quite a few areas in 1/2 strength and I didn't want to ask him to repaint it. He's since done 3 walls in three different parts of the house in 'linseed' and it works really nicely with the white duck 1/2 strength and I'm now glad we went 1/2 strength after all! I've seen an example of 1/2 strength white duck used on walls ceiling and skirtings/ architraves and it looks really classy. I think if you're painting all of those areas the same colour then full strength would be too much. In our case I decided on WHITE doors, ceilings, architraves and skirtings mainly because we've got bold feature wall colours in the kids rooms and I wanted the white trims to make the colours pop. I guess how much light the rooms receive, the colour of your trims and also other colours in the space will be a factor but I would say 1/2 strength would be a nice option Re: white duck - is it too grey? What strength? Other option 6Mar 18, 2011 4:32 pm Hi Miss, thank you for such a detailed response! Is it too much to ask for photos? I can imagine the 1/2 would look fantastic with the white trim. As we have cedar ceilings, I can't really do white as we tried it but it is too stark with the cedar and had to sand it back. Light is a bit of an issue because of the ceiling color but there is floor to ceiling windows which somewhat compensates. Got to take care of hubbies as they need to be kept happy!!!!! More sanding of beams for us so I will keep you posted. When I learn how to , I will post photos of the rooms. Thanks again for the response Kylie Re: white duck - is it too grey? What strength? Other option 7Mar 19, 2011 9:11 am I am more than happy to share photos..... As I mentioned in my original response I should have some photos in the next week that I can share! Re: white duck - is it too grey? What strength? Other option 8Mar 19, 2011 5:18 pm hi i have done a sample of 1/2 white duck and so far looks great. Also did hogs bristle but it is too beige. We have wood, wood and more wood so I am not going to introduce another color at this stage. Might do the full white duck as a feature wall in our bedroom. Re: Dulux White Duck - is it too grey? What strength? other? 9Mar 22, 2011 8:33 pm Hi, this is my first and we are doing the same colours. Kitchen in linseen two pack, walls will be white duck, still deciding on the strength. I too will look forward to seeing some photo's. Re: Dulux White Duck - is it too grey? What strength? other? 10Mar 23, 2011 6:07 am Oh no, painter came in and said white duck would throw off too much grey for the bedrooms. Maybe it's hogs bristle after all? Anyone have photos to show of grand piano? Re: Dulux White Duck - is it too grey? What strength? other? 11Mar 23, 2011 8:15 pm It sounds as though you've ruled out White Duck as an option but if you're still curious I've just uploaded some photos in my thread ph 14..... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36986&p=690726#p690726 I've taken photos mainly to show the flooring and feature walls but there are also photos that show the white duck that you can see on the other walls (Where white duck is used it is mostly half strength. My kids rooms are 1/4 strength and the ensuite and bathroom are full strength) Re: Dulux White Duck - is it too grey? What strength? other? 12Mar 24, 2011 12:56 pm We've used Dulux Limed White throughout our house - half strength in the public areas and full strength in our bedroom and my office. I like it with our merbau timber floors so I imagine I would like it with cedar window frames. I think it is more of a stoney-grey compared with white duck which has slightly greener undertones. Limed White might give you more of a warmer feel because of that while still being grey IYKWIM? Best to get a couple of sample pots and paint some big sheets of corrugated cardboard - that way you can move them from room to room to see what you think. Re: Dulux White Duck - is it too grey? What strength? other? 13Mar 25, 2011 6:29 am thanks for responding Miss - love your colours and the house size! The pink will be just awesome and I love it with white. Our painter started yesterday and is going with 1/4 hogs bristle in kids bedroom - still to decide on one child's feature wall - the other is orange/yellow stripes! Believe it or not, looks fantastic with the right shades. Might show other daughter your pink wall and see what she thinks. We have a lovely painter who said if I don't like the color of these rooms when done we can change. After seeing your photos I am still loving the white duck. Shall see by the end of today. Re: Dulux White Duck - is it too grey? What strength? other? 14Mar 25, 2011 6:33 am Hi kb46, I have never heard of limed whited white but will look into it today as the painter is still at undercoat stage. It is so hard to make decisions as we ar doing it all under the pump as our house sold in 3 days - we thought it might take months - this would have given us heaps of time to get our new house renovated more slowly. As it is, we have to be out on April 30 so that leaves us 37 days to do everything! Re: Dulux White Duck - is it too grey?
