Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jun 15, 2012 5:49 pm Our builder has said we can't have Solver Designer White not without paying extra for another coat for each door/frame. Apparently it doesn't cover properly with just an undercoat & top coat. I would like a white that is a nice neutral white for doors/door frames & architraves but not stark white like the ceilings. I have been into Solver and grabbed some swatches which looked white in the store but once home they have either tinges of green, blue, pink etc. Have looked at swatches in Bunnings but their lighting is shocking and every one I brought home I discarded. Anyone got any suggestions....should we just pay the extra $'s and get what we want or are there any whites without a lot of tinting required that covers in 2 coats? Finding the perfect whit 4Jun 21, 2012 3:53 pm We've got Solver Parchment throughout the entire house - walls, doors, ceiling, etc etc and we love it. It's not too white and has a nice warm feel to it .... http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff440/Nicholl72/IMGA0165.jpg For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Painting/decorating advice pls. Finding the perfect whit 5Jun 21, 2012 8:54 pm Thanks guys...I have popped into Masters and grabbed every shade of white I could lay my hands on so just need to plough through them all now...I will definitely look at your choices too...Cheers and if I fail to find one that the builder accepts as covering in 2 coats then I guess it will be the extra dollars! Even though I don't see why I should. I was of the belief that painters should follow recommended instructions by manufacturers and registration board and they say 1 undercoat and 2 top coats. If the builder only does 2 coats then surely they are just scrimping to cut costs?! That's what your looking for, pure white, not tints no shades. I can't understand why the builder can't do this at a normal price. Is it Michelle? I have got 12 swatches leaning up in my kitchen which I glance at when passing to see which one jumps out me Someone told me that Wattyl and Solver are the same ppl so I have got 4 Wattyl colours shortlisted:- Icing White, Magic White, White Vogue & Wattyl White Builder says that the solver designer white which i wanted would require 3 coats to cover (even though it does have a slight tint) and they only pay the painters for 2 coats! Pretty disappointed with them to be honest...although I haven't pushed the issue as I don't want to be a nuisance.. The painters registration board and also solver say that 3 coats is the standard requirement and in fact solver only guarantee their product if used according to directions. We currently have the same paint on most walls as the doors and frames but this time I want to have a bit of definition between the two. I don't know if thats "in" or "out" lol Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE We used a smaller qld builder who went bankrupt about 12 months after completion of ours.
