Our house plan has a designated bedroom located about 4 meters away from our upright cooker (which is in an open plan kitchen/dining/living area. There is a (presumably) hard wired smoke alarm installed on the ceiling just outside the door. I believe there is a regulation requiring this. We don''t use this designated bedroom as a bedroom. It's a TV/play room, but I guess it's officially a bedroom as per our house plans.
Whenever we cook meat on the stove top the alarm goes off and it's DRIVING US NUTS . We always have the extractor fan going at gale force, but to no avail.
Anyone know if current regulations would allow us to disconnect it as we don't use that room for sleeping? Any electricians out there that might know?
