Nope, No depth measurements anywhere in my documents Stewie.
I was thinking along those lines insider, what happens we you have heave and the piers are tied to the slab? It could have caused more damage than we already have?

Re: URBAN MYTHS .... ? 123Oct 09, 2014 5:39 pm I certainly don't claim to be a geotech engineer. That diagram was for Sydney Water as a guide for them, the structural engineer, the council, the client and the builder and the soil type was a clay/loam which I show at 45º. The diagrams I used as a guide had dry sand at a lower angle of repose - 34º. Stewie Re: URBAN MYTHS .... ? 124Oct 09, 2014 8:41 pm No I don't claim to be one either but most engineers use 45 for any type of clay.Maybe it's the worst case scenario for clay and there is a safety factor built in.There is a huge variety of clays but one angle used. Re: URBAN MYTHS .... ? 125Oct 10, 2014 7:25 am Yes but SM said he was on sand and that is who I was replying to. If he is in WA, most excavations I have seen photos of, the sand has been bone dry so it would have a lower angle of repose than clay.
Stewie Re: URBAN MYTHS .... ? 126Oct 10, 2014 3:21 pm No argument here Stewie there is a range they use for sand depending on the internal fraction angle but as you say it is lower. I should have said on another topic why do engineers always use 45 for angle of repose in clay Re: URBAN MYTHS .... ? 127Oct 10, 2014 5:44 pm Quote: Here's another myth - Angle of repose in clay is always 45 degrees This is because it is half way between 0 & 90 degrees. If one does not know the exact answer, take an average. The answer must be between 0 & 90 degrees, therefore the average is 45deg. Re: URBAN MYTHS .... ? 128Oct 10, 2014 7:58 pm Beetaloo If one does not know the exact answer, take an average. The answer must be between 0 & 90 degrees, therefore the average is 45deg. That is an urban myth. The answer to the meaning of life, the universe and all else is 42. Now...what was the question? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. OK. I wasn't recommending them or knocking them. Just so many threads on this subject and so many stories/myths. But - its good to know a name of someone that does it. Re: URBAN MYTHS .... ? 140Oct 19, 2014 8:13 am Can you save money by sub-contracting to a number of builders and/or do it yourself. Maybe. But I've seen houses take forever to finish because of this. The main builder waiting for things to happen - eg polished floors, cement work - before he can resume work. The floors were done cheaper - but it "cost" at least a month because of delays caused by the polisher - thus rent costs came into play - which of course weren't counted ... . Also - moving into a house without tiles/carpet etc etc can create issues. |
