Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on how to clean floor porcelain tiles after laying & grouting?
How can I get that powdery stuff off so that I get a nice shiny clean result?
Any suggestions a very much appreciated.

I had buffed all of our porcelain tiles by hand with a soft cloth to remove grout, it was the only way I could get them to come up looking shiny.

We were told it was transit wax on our tiles and we had to get someone in to clean them with some solution and a buffing machine - took about half a day and cost $600 ::sad::

Beaumonts advised to use metho and a scourer and just lightly scrub.

Had the same problem years ago with non-porcelain tiles and was told by the grout manufacturer to use a rag dampened with turps, then polish off. Worked a treat

What ever you decide to use try a small hidden area first

I personally have use distilled vinegar and it worked a charm. Just apply generously and leave for 10 minutes the wipe off with a dry cloth. For the grout use the same method of application then start scrubbing it with an old toothbrush.

Hi Peter,

Someone also told me about this method, but not sure how it works?
All I want is to take that powdery stuff off the tiles, being porcelain, you can see the powdery streaks. Where do I get the distilled vinegar from? would Bunnings have it?....do I just put it in a spray container & spray it then just wipe over with a dry cloth?

depending what you mean if the streaks are from when they grouted and they didnt wash it off enought then the best is a Phosphoric Acid Cleaner check with any local tile supply shop works a treat

The green heavy duty enjo mitt and water worked well for us and any areas that were extra difficult we used the marble paste... this was a few years ago in our last home.. will do again for our next one when finished.
