I have a couple of questions that would be great if you could offer some advice for;
What sort of window furnishings do you recommend for those long, narrow windows that are being used a little more frequently in houses on smaller blocks, I think they are roughly 24x5 or something like that? I think they are a great idea, but I've never really encountered them before. I notice in the PD displays they often use either plantation shutters or rollers.
Secondly, any tips on how to dress up an Alfresco entertaining area? We are going to have a nice sized alfresco area in our house, currently with just a concrete floor. I just want something to make it look a little less like a big porch and more like a trendy entertaining area
Hi Wateman,
With the window furnishings if you are doing a classicly driven or resort style home then a shutter would definitely work, on a contemporary style a escreen (roller blind could work). If you have a few of them in a row, you can put a sheer curtain running the full length to soften the room
If budget allows you I would definitely deck the area. If not there is some great paving paints that you can use to allow some colour or at least a darker charcoal. Definitely add a table and chairs, you can always ground the space with a rug under the table. Install a couple of wall lights , this way you can have some feature focal lighting at night. A fan always also works well, make sure it reflects your internal scheme
A couple of feature pots in the corners with some focal planting helps lift the area. Artwork can also work really well in an alfresco, metal hangings look great and quite inexpensive.
Cheers, Catherine
