Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 09, 2023 9:08 am Hi l have a few acres of land , l have a trench about one meter wide , half a meter deep and about 60 meters long, that l want to fill in with something. l can get either sand or soil delivered to fill it it, They said theres a choice, coarse sand, beach sand or packing sand, whats the difference? THe sand is half the price of soil so sand is alot cheaper then soil. l was thinking of filling it in with sand and a small covering layer of soil over the top . But worried about how sand might affect drainage and l have a cypress hedge 3 meters distance away would sand be bad for its roots. Should l pay extra and go with soil and fill the entitre trench in with soil rather then the cheaper option of sand? Jimbo Why don't you contact a few excavation companies in your area and ask them if they have any clean fill you can get for free. Often these companies are excavating a pool and have clean VENM ( Virgin excavated natural material) and they charge the customer to remove it but then pay fees to dump it. So if you take some for free then its a win win.
