Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Has anyone rectified slab heave successfully 661Jul 24, 2015 1:39 pm A lot of assumptions are made here one of which is that disputes will be solved quickly, easily and at lowest cost to the homeowner. I have read recently about a settlement of 25M in a class action 20M of which went in legal fees and the rest to hundreds of shareholders. That is excellent result for someone and it wasn't shareholders. If you apply that financial template to the building dispute your assumptions may be more right than you think. If you wait for government to protect you with building control you will grow old waiting. The only alternative that makes sense is to keep an eye with your own independent building consultant, at least you will have a fighting chance to keep out of trouble. I have asked for some clarification on a few points seeking a written response in email. One of the points is copied and pasted here- 6. The area between elevation D and the north side boundary and even some of the area between elevation C and the west rear boundary appear that it will form a dam by looks of things, that is where the site cut is. How will Simonds Homes take care of that site drainage issue from the first day the slab is poured as to prevent ponding and flooding of the foundations as a requirement placed in the engineering of the slab and the engineering of drainage of the site and as is also a requirement included in the NCC 2015? I raise this only because of the site classification of H2 and the prevention of slab heave which is prevalent in H2 and H1 sites for building projects. I will be interested on how they will reply to that in email. I will pass on any reply received. Re: Has anyone rectified slab heave successfully 663Jul 24, 2015 2:31 pm I gave my project manager full ability to increase any footings or any structure as thought needed, , and in conjunction with other excellent trades increased most of my structure, as good builders should question borderline structural decisions based on practical experiences.i suppose its paper versus practical and I would listen to experience first. In a way you can see people are checking what luxuries are included and generally give less thought to what they cant see but for me is way more important. I am with you on what you are wanting to achieve and what you consider the most important part of building a house. I upgraded my slab from the minimum engineered on my coin. When it comes to Volume builders and wanting that little bit better built house it is like asking them to walk on water. It is difficult to say the least. I guess most volume builders don't fall into the category of "good builders". I know, nobody forced me to go with a Volume Builder but I did and am now doing the best I can to get the best outcome I can. Yeah it was in Bannockburn Re: Has anyone rectified slab heave successfully 677Jul 28, 2015 11:15 am I'm speechless! How often does this happen? And why doesn't it get reported in the news - even just the local paper? You'd think they'd be desperate enough to print any story. Re: Has anyone rectified slab heave successfully 679Jul 28, 2015 11:34 am Well two things.... a.) would the newspapers want to have an article of a volume builder's construction collapsing like a house on cards on page 8 then a full page spread of the volume builders ad in the real estate section, and b.) news is all about what almost never happens. Which makes you wonder.... Hi All, we are starting to think of building with Masterpiece Builders in Victoria, has anyone had any feedback or experience with them 0 14462 Hi we are looking to talk to people who have built with them recently.
