Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Arched or rectangle toplight for our double entrance doo 6Mar 02, 2010 7:43 pm Now we need to decide whether to go with a plain toplight or a colonial toplight. Parner wants to go with colonial to match the windows. And I wouldn't mind a plain toplight (just because it's cheaper). What do you guys think? Re: Arched or rectangle toplight for our double entrance doo 8Mar 02, 2010 8:12 pm fairy blue Any pics for comparison? I haven't been able to find any pics of a colonial bars toplight (maybe there is a reason for this ) But basically it's like a plain toplight except there are bars/squares separating the glass pieces. Sorry really bad description Here is a plain one though: http://www.treecraft-woodwork.com/door%202.jpg Re: Arched or rectangle toplight for our double entrance doo 9Mar 02, 2010 8:15 pm Something like this: Re: Arched or rectangle toplight for our double entrance doo 10Mar 02, 2010 8:27 pm From looking at your front elevation, it doesn't look like you would have much room for a colonial top light. Has your builder told you it is possible? Personally I think it would look nice (and be cheaper again) without any sort of top light because the arch window is not that far above - an extra colonial top light would be too busy to me. If I had to chose one though, it would be the standard glass. The window and door is higher than the garage door - are they 2400 high and the garage 2100? If the top light of the door is higher than the window height, it would not look as nice as being at the same level --and then you have the garage door lower again so it could look out of balance Re: Arched or rectangle toplight for our double entrance doo 11Mar 02, 2010 8:37 pm Canoeist From looking at your front elevation, it doesn't look like you would have much room for a colonial top light. Now that you mention it it does look a bit odd with all three of them being different heights :S Will check with my partner to see if these are in fact the latest plans. Thanks again!!!!
