Hi all, Given the quotes I have recieved for my renovations I am wondering if it is worth factoring moving the actual house as part of my renovations. I have a 12 acre block on the side of a hill with beautiful valley views. Currently the house is right down the bottom south east corner (closest to ...

What are the dimensions? I'm assuming if it was a single car garage it was minimum of 3.5 metres, possibly 4m wide? The master bedroom in my house is only 3.5m wide (4.8m long) and for me personally it was wide enough but felt almost too long. I have now converted that room into a studio flat that I...

The door is not on that wall (it's a 4.8 metre straight wall with no windows or doors etc), however both the adjoining bedroom and the studio have doors opening onto a hallway right beside the adjoining wall - so literally their respective openings are about a foot from each other.

Hi, yes it's just normal plasterboard and I doubt there is even any insulation in there at the moment. The room was originally a master bedroom (hence it having it's own bathroom) and we removed the built in wardrobe and installed a kitchenette in that cavity. It was part of an addition which was ad...

Hi Berek, I'm hoping to renovate and extend my existing house with my retired father's help. So while he didn't plan to be an OB in his retirement he is basically ending up there with me. :-) My eldest daughter goes to Uni in Tassie - Hobart and we've actually found it seems warmer than Victoria for...

Hi Tony and Mary, I assume your house is well under way by now, if not completely finished. I hope the whole process hasn't been too stressful. I'd love to build a new house from scratch one day (though I would probably design it or make major changes to a builders design). However for financial rea...

Hi everyone, Just thought I would introduce myself. I'm a solo mum by choice (IVF with donor sperm) and now that my youngest is starting school I am starting a new project which is even more stressful then the IVF roller coaster - renovating and extending my house. I have a 1950's weatherboard farmh...

I realise this is an older post so you have no doubt resolved it by now. I had an architect respond to an add I had put out on a service seeking site and then insist on a site visit (I had advertised for a draftsman to draw up plans for a cheap, small extension). Anyway he spent an hour on site pres...

Tiles vs Colour Bond - how colour bond is somehow better and more environmentally correct - when it is really just a personal choice. It's funny, I've seen an advert somewhere where tiles were an extra - ie costing more. I quite like the individuality of tiles today rather than the common, rather b...

Hi everyone, I've been doing a bit of research on sound proofing products but I don't know anyone who has used them to know if they will work, are value for money etc. So I'm hoping you might be able to help me out. So the situation is that currently my bedroom (which will later become my 20yr old d...

Hi all, I've just joined. I am extending and renovating an old (approx 1950's) weatherboard farmhouse as an owner builder. Have my planning permit through, currently working on building permit. Have registered as an Owner Builder. My original plan was for my father (67) and I to do all the work ours...
