Thanks guys. Not looking forward to staining it  Southies. Checked with council & they told me the only thing I have to worry about is if any part of it exceeds 1 metre in hieght, which it doesn't. :D Cheers, Mike. Wow! According to our council, if any part of the decking exceeds ground ...

What sort of budget are you setting for the doorbell Stewie? Do you have something specific in mind? As I said, the doorbell totally slipped my mind, so I'm having to do some last minute research :P. A simple "Ding Dong" bell will suffice - I can't really justify the cost/need of an intercom type s...

Hi all, Was visiting the site today and going through all my pre-wiring before it takes place next week, and noticed that the simple doorbell had slipped my mind. Would it make much of a difference if we were to pre-wire a doorbell (if there's such a thing) instead of fitting it after settlement?? H...

You've got me concerned. Apart from a report, is there any other physical/visual signs which will show me that Termite Protection has been installed on my house?? Would these pipes be visible about ground level???

Will be using Kevin from New Home Insp... He's been very helpful over the phone, and we haven't paid him a cent yet. We'll see ho...

Stewie, are you building with Northridge homes? I am asking cos a friend of mine built with them (after contract signing it became H**l*y) and it was great! Hence the referral. The CSR/Tenderer they had were located in a different place though and in comparison more flexible. Yep we signed with Nor...

Kevin, we too are building with Henley (at frame stage), and have so far had a vastly different experience to the one you're going through. I suggest that you don't get too worried when dealing with CSRs. Just make your intentions clear to them, and remember apart from the $500 odd dollars you have ...

With slab down during the weekend, I've noticed (with the help of the lovely rain) that our slab is not 100% level. Puddles form on a number of different areas. Is this normal, or should a slab be 100% flat? Does the unevennes mean the slab does not meet Australian Standards? Will this cause a negat...

Is this stipulated in the standard builders contract? I'm surprised that builders are willing to pay the utility bills. Then again we are paying them to build a house. Their pricing in their contracts will include the water/electricity costs - so you would think.

Cheers Ausdesign for your professional opinion...it's much appreciated and a relief to hear that the problem will not automatically result in extra cost. I guess I'll have to sit back and wait to hear from the builder to see which direction we head. I'm sure they're doing their best to hurry the pro...

Thanks for the feedback. :) :) :) Hmm - Interesting issue. Maybe go halves is an option - 1/2 builder 1/2 you - but don't cave in too early and be hardnosed talking tribunals etc first. Thanks for the tip. It's still early stages and there is no confirmation that we will be fed the cost, but I won't...

Hi Guys - I need some advice... Building with a major builder, and ready for slab stage to take place, i just received the bad news that our job has "stopped" due to what seems to be an error made by the engineer. We have chosen to build our home with our garage set on the boundary. As it turns out ...

We have been lucky in that our block has 23 metres frontage, so we have opted for a triple garage (i.e. a double garage, with the extension for a 2nd roller door). Width of garage = 8.49m Depth = 6.6m I'm happy with that, enough room for 2 cars, as well as storage space - which as everyone knows is ...
